Yes you can use a standalone unit from the AE86 to be used on the AE82. But the pins are different on the ECU, which means you have to get connectors.

Have a look at the plugs of the AE82 ECU, it should be the same 10-18-14 configuration. The only possible difference will be in the pin functions. By that I mean that pin 1-10 in your AE86 ECU might have a different function to pin 1-10 in the AE82 ECU. Appart from finding the wiring diagrams for each one, you can take the covers off and have a look at the circuit boards. There should be a designation for each pin. If these all match, then plug and play. If not, then find your wiring diagrams and determine what each pin does.

You've got me a bit turned around here. So, you've got an AE86 wiring loom in there at the moment and you are a) changing engines, or b) changing computers?
It sounds like you're changing computers, as engine is just plug it up and go. So if you're looking for a standalone ECU then it doesn't matter. Just find one that you're comfortable with, considerations will be: 1)Price 2)Functions 3)Access to a tuner you trust Just about all brands should be able to provide a linking cable to match your current loom to the computer. I would suggest a standalone over a piggyback. |
