ring and pinion
I'm having all sorts of trouble fitting a new ring and pinion, basically it centres around the pinion height. I can do the pre-loads and back lash etc. but getting the correct spacer depth is proving to be a nightmare.
I have installed the pinion shaft and bearing without the spacer so that I can minutely adjust the pinion height and I can get a reasonable pattern in the marking compound but my big problem is getting it to turn smoothly. The backlash is correct by the way. I can only think that running the ring and pinion "dry" with little or no lubrication while setting it up is the problem. Has anyone else had this happen, can anyone help ? Thanks TC An analogue brain in a digital World |
