I doubt a rally setup would lower the car much.

What exactly is the ruling on coilovers? You need to run stock diameter springs?

If I were you I would simply copy the Escort Mk2 tarmac rally spring rates. The cars are similar enough to get you in the ballpark. Then drop the Front shorty bilsteins in a modified cartridge . You need special slider seals that guide the shock body inside the strut.. but you do get upsidedown dampers as a result. That's the modification that Gp4 does.. no idea if you could diy that, but I'm mighty interested in having a look at how they do it.

I think the Escort rear shock will plonk right into the AE86 with minor modifications. You can also use the stock AE86 bilstein and have them revalved (ask around the paddock) to mk2 specs.

Forget about the T3 stuff.. no real advantage to be had for you.
