I drove 2 ae86 with F20C (one with a f20c turbo and 450hp <-the car almost fly over the track)
Is it fun: YES
Is it for purists: Definitly NO

For me even a 7AG is already denaturing the essence of the AE86.
The only concession I could make is a 7AG block with a 4AG crank and longer rods (to get a better rod/stroke ratio)

So it is NO stroer, then. if you keep the 4AG crank, then the displacement would be still 1,6cc

If you want to keep rod/stroke ratio You have to go for oversize bore so you would get 2,0ccm ... reving like 4ag.. but it would be more expancive than the F20
