Any ECU will do, as long as it uses OEM connector and wiring.
It doesn't have to be in OEM case. If you ever get "scrutineered" they will unhook your custom ECU and put OEM. If your car starts and idles (even "rough as hell" will do) you are OK. These are Gr. N propisitions, not sure about Gr.A but it can only be same or even more liberated. Btw. I'm using VEMS in Motronic 2.x case with JPT-55 connector and complementary wiring. All taken from Alfa Romeo 155. Wired PCB to JPT-55 and made few changes to harness and 4AGE is working like a charm.
