Can you also check the position of the gearbox mount? Maybe the previous owner needed more clearance at the front and moved it forward one bolt?
Another possibility is that the previous owner swapped in a 20 spline TE72 gearbox and mixed the two driveshafts to make it work. But as far as I could find, the two boxes are supposed to be identical in length.
