EE80 has the point. Viscosity ratings aren't all there is to an oil.

It's an old trick to replace brake fluid with ATF in order to swell up leaking cylinder seals and make the brakes work a while longer.

The magic ingredient in ATF used to be sperm whale oil, which was also considered the finest lubricant for sewing machines and other light gear oil, until sperm whales got a bit expensive to process. The replacement is often jojoba bean oil. Cheaper and safer to hunt, with fewer protests.

And, if "oil is oil" was true...do you guys really think pouring "oil is oil" into a gearbox could HEAL WORN PARTS?? Then the next poor sucker buys the car and wonders wtf the previous owner did to screw it up so badly...

Original owner, 1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S in the US of A. Will trade for a Cadillac-Gage V150 or a Ford GT44.
