Again, that's got nothing to do with the AE86. *ANY* 20+ year old used car is going to be a very old used car. The AE86 is in fact a simple, dependable, durable car that got outstanding reviews for mechanical reliability when it was new, equal to or better than anything else on the road at that time.
The AE86 will be a simple car to maintain--compared to more complicated cars--and a reliable car, compared to the many other cars (Renault, Peugot, VW, Audi, Chevy<G&gt that were available from that time period.

The bottom line comes back to all of that not really mattering at all. Anyone who buys an old used car, must expect problems. When the car started in life as a cheap car, a beginner's car, or even worse a cheap beginners sports car that was just begging to be abused by cheap folks who couldn't afford maintenance and didn't know how to do it, the potential for abuse is certainly worse too.<G> On the other hand, in the US Corolla owners tended ot be frugal folks who wanted to keep their cars in good shape for long-term ownership, so the cars were often maintained as well as anything else. And the abusers who wanted to buy sports cars, bought real sports cars here. In 1985 no one knew what a Corolla GTS was here--not even the dealers.

Bottom line? AE86 has nothing to do with it, kids who don't know any better think that because they saw "SuperCar" in a comic book, they're going to buy one in mint condition. If you want problems...The 1968 289 Mustang that I got in 1973 had far more problems, far worse problems, than most 20 year old Corollas will have today. There's a reason we used to say "FORD means Found On Road Dead". Even if they were fun.<G>
