if you cut maximum your nut doesnt grip the shock and it is loose in the strut...

You can do this:
cut to the last part... as low as you can get it...

but then the nut doesn't fit

In my case even the KONI nuts didn't fit.
So what do you do?

then you machine (grind) the inner side of the stock nut... like so:
