It's worth renewing the bush in the rack housing, located on the opposite end to the pinion shaft. When this wears you get a knocking noise and the steering feels less precise.
A tip for removal of this bush:
Mig weld a bead around the inside of the old bush, this will make it contract and it should just drop out onto the floor, mine did Thumbs up!
Heating the rack housing did not work for me....... and neither did bashing the bush with a drift/hammer !!
