4AGE Heat Shielding Intake Gasket
Greetings,
has anyone tried any Toyota 4AGE/4AGZE Heat Shielding Intake Gasket to lower the intake air temperature, especially for supercharged engines like 4AGZE? Like the one from Evolution Industries here: http://www.swapshopracing.com/contents/en-us/p6386.html Interested in any opinions. no offense, but something that tiny that normally get squashed between the plates is not gonne give you alot of HP gain. Maybe 1 if noticable.
Not worth the effort if you ask me. You would need to shield the whole engine off the intake side to decrease the heat going in to the engine. You should actually calculate airspeed vs outside temp around intake house and then maximum amount of heat the air cold absorb while traveling into the engine. Again not worth the effort. Make a good solid cold air intake would do alot more I guess. And in case of a gze get a good FMIC. 4AGE Heat Shielding Intake Gasket
I made my own out of 3.18 (1/8") virgin PTFE for an ITB onto 16V 4AGE
conversion. This fits between the head and the intake manifold. Seems to work quite well. I can't measure the air temperature, but I can say that after a drive, the intake manifold is only warm to touch. I also know that the 20V Blacktop has a three layer insulating gasket between the head and the intake manifold. It has a thin metal layer each side with a thick (2mm?) layer of black plastic between. Thanks for the replies. The issue I am facing is the following: I have just installed a Blitz supercharger on my 4AGZE 7 rib block and 4AGE big port head.
After a quick test drive, my PLX gauge measured 84 degrees Celsius for intake temp for the air after the supercharger and before the intake valves. That's too much. Since the Blitz supercharger is right on the intake side of the head, there is no intercooler option. I am now setting up water injection but I need to lower intake temps without it. It starts with ambient temp (27) and keeps increasing.... I need to check there is enough oil in the supercharger as well. You can not touch the supercharger, it's too hot in my case. 4AGE Heat Shielding Intake Gasket
It seems that the Blitz supercharger is a Roots type blower, so the
discharge air will heat up according to the pressure ratio. The more boost you have the hotter the discharge air. The GZE supercharger has an electromagnetic clutch, that disengages the supercharger and allows the engine to run N.A. when boost is not required. No doubt this helps cool the rotors and housing. Most of the heating will be from compression of the air, but every little bit helps. So fitting a thermal gasket between the head and the intake manifold would be a good idea. Use 1/8" or 4mm thick virgin PTFE (teflon) whichever is available. It is expensive, but it is also the best thermal gasket material available. Cheers... jondee86 |

So this heat is without hitting boost. I'll follow your advice regarding thermal gasket.
