AE82 & AE92 Gearbox..

What's the difference in gear ratios...

I know that AE92 gerabox fits on AE82 clutch and flywheel, but what about the axles and the rest.. ??

Any page about that or info on other forums..

The C50 and C52 transaxles are virtually identical and completely interchangeable. The only major difference is that C52 has mounting points for the starter on both sides of the engine, while C50 has one only on the exhaust manifold side. This meaning that you can place the starter under the intake manifold if you use a C52. However, in this case you'll need to modify the metal shield plate between the block and transaxle.

One more thing; do you know anything about Carina II 1.6 gearbox ?? I've heard from "some people" that fits on AE82 and it has shorter gear ratios..
C50 for me has to long gear ratios --> 3. gear at 7900 rpm [rev limit] - 170 km/h .. way to long..

And one more ... what diameter of exaust pipes you have on your car?? What you recomend .. 40cm, 45cm, 50cm ??

At least from what I've found, the AT15x/AT17x Carina II box has the same gearing as the european market AE82 so nothing to gain there, really. The C56 off an AE111 would probably be quite nice, though - here's a good page detailing the gear ratios;

We have a 51mm (2 inch) exhaust all the way from front to back and it seems to work pretty good. One small muffler at the very end of the pipe, right behind the rear bumper. Kinda loud but, hey - it's a racing car.

My parents have a CarinaII 1.6
@ 3rd gear the limiter (@6300 rpm) cuts in at 130~135 km/h

So if you drive 6300 rpm in your AE82 and also drive 130~135 it's exact the same ratio

Oops... I'm a bit late... But it didn't matter in this case since I really don't know.. hehe

The C50 that used to sit in my AE82 has been resting beside the car for some months and will never be put in there again.

(A 3S-GE with a S53 box is in it's place )

What suspension modification you have on your AE82 ??

What do you recomend and from were do you get parts? I know only Whiteline in Australia that has stuff for AE82 ..

Sorry about so many questions but here in Cro, in all country are 3 AE82.. And on the net isn't that easy to get some constructive thing's on AE82 ..

Hmm, only the 2-litre Celicas were sold here in Finland so I don't have any info on the 1.6 ones. I think I'll need to look around if I could find anything..

Well, we have made our own coilover struts and use Koni yellow shocks (for an Opel Astra, I think), Eibach 60mm ID coil springs and SuperPro polyurethane bushings.

The shocks, springs and the coilover sleeves are all quite generic stuff so they're available pretty much anywhere. The bushings we ordered directly from SuperPro;

They have bushings both for AE82 and AE86, as well as a whole lot of other Toyotas.

Yeah, I know - it's really hard to find info or parts specific for the AE82. I guess it just isn't a very popular car anymore, despite it still being a pretty quick and light (ours weighs under 900kg WITH fuel/oil/etc) little hatchback. It was used in N2 endurance racing in Japan alongside AE86 and even Tsuchiya himself has raced one!
