AE86 Winter snow tips?
I have been see lots of AE86 in Europe area that drive their AE86 on the Snow, ice, etc with FR layout. I always in aww when I see videos clips of them driving like a rally car. You dont get that much about it the USA.
The only AE86 rally car here in NEw England was from Dent Sport Garage
http://www.dentsport.com/gallery/v/dsg/p...LarryAe86/

My fav video of AE86 on the snow was a post from club4ag long time ago before it was shut down. it was fro duen.hu and the file name was
DuEnMovie_Matra2005januar. anyone here know the people?

I just want to know what tire sizes, suspension, or any other tips on driving the AE86 on winter conditions. I know to run Snow tires only and some tires with studs.

Snow season is coming up here in Connecticut and basicly the whole New England area.I just want to get ahead of it.

best winter tires???? I always drive on the same tires during the whole year. Once you manage to keep the car on teh road the tires don't matter anymore.

Cars:
"99 Lexus IS200
"86 AE86 Kouki Panda Levin GT-Apex (restore project)
"84 AE86 Zenki Blue Levin (project racer)

Robo,

Thats cause Holland is one of the few countries this far from the equator where winter tires are not manditory Big Grin

They want to make it manditory here aswell because winter tires are safer in the winter.. *proest*

lol but snow conditions here get really bad once it goes. It just reaches to the knees to ankle area. Onces it stops it becomes stiff snow ice.

Plus there are lots of hills and narrow areas in my area. But I just want better grip in normal conditions. Those seasonal tires don't do the trick at all.
Plus this is Rear wheel drive here. plus I going to add heavy Rice bags in back. When winter is over. I can eat my Rice!!!! lol

Heh... funny how posting to the Euro forum gets a fellow nor east USA guy to respond..... I lived in northeastern Pa... the Poconos... the snow here may not be the same as europe... but the snow YOU will encounter is northeast USA snow... and I have 20+ years expereince with those winters.... Some suggestions....

make sure your coolant is tested to at least 35 below zero. Make sure you have an operating thermostat. Hopefully your heater core isn't plugged... and the blend door cable works so you have heat...

get 4 steel wheels... get 4 snow tires. If you car is at or near stock ride height... get 175/70/14 snow tires**... in effect getting a 175/70 is like the reverse of buying performance tires.... "minus 1" tire sizing instead of "plus 1" tire sizing......

** - if you are lowered.... look for a 175/65/14, finally.... if you must... a 175/60/14

The tires I currently recommend are Nokian... get 4 of any of these and you'll be AMAZED at your traction levels on ice and snow

Narrow tires (155), stock springs + koni shock (more stiff then original).
Try not to fill the grille with snow so you don't overheat the engine.

AZNWOKZ,

the guy whose vid you've seen on duen.hu is called Cápa (which means Shark in Hungarian Smile).

Here is the vid for others might be interested: http://duen.hu/kepek/video/DuEnMovie_Mat...januar.wmv
Another scenes of that night here:
http://duen.hu/kepek/video/DuEnMovie_Mat...obi_le.wmv (a rally driver driving a Sunny GTR behind Cápa's AE86)

http://duen.hu/kepek/video/DuEnMovie_Mat...Capa_3.wmv
http://duen.hu/kepek/video/DuEnMovie_Mat...Capa_4.wmv

The car is nothing special. It has a 4-1 header and when the vids were filmed some rally gearbox used for Ladas. Also, the head is shaved with some insane mm's I can't remember exactly how much. I suppose the guy used 175/70R13 Rally2000 tires made in the USSR or 155 wide Belshinas also from the USSR. This is how they climbed the mountains that days.

Recently one of my mates bought the car. The engine is very revvy because of the header and is quite powerful despite it's worn out. The chassis is super-rusty because it was used only in the winter nights...hardcore action. Smile

Here is a picture about my mate and me drifting last weekend.

Enjoy the winter! Smile

AE86 Winter snow tips?
oldeskewltoy- Thanks for the great tip and I sould have ask a fellow NE USA person. But I just know that Euro has to deal with snow conditions and might have more insight. Plus Rally is mostly more exposed there than most places.

Thanks for the great videos and responese. Im really glad that help my answer as well as having a good time.

But I might have to sell my AE86 due to personal reasons. I really hate those situation. i hope to experience more than I wanted.

Thank-you!!! Any more input is welcomed
