Bushing Kit

I own a 1984 coupe levin and i want to buy a Bushing Kit that is only for 1985-1987. where is the diference?

I don't think there's a difference in the bushing kit.

there's quite a bit of posts for the bushings for the AE86 in here.. As per my research the best after market kit is the Prothane kit..

Maybe not the best but certainly best buy.

I'm wondering if TRD set is prothane or rubber, because on ebay there is an auction where it is stated "prothane" and i remember few guys here mentioned that it is rubber, harder but rubber.

Powerflex costs pretty much the same.Few of mine professional circuit racers friends evaluated them as great for daily sport use.
I can't be sure but as much as i've seen, some people complained about cheaper prothane bushings but couldn't find anybody camplaining about noise level on Powerflex bushes which are also prothane.

Is there any difference, is it "psyhological" difference (people much less complain on more expensive stuff, easily if they are cheap) or ....

Does anyone knows for sure if Powerflex is better than prothan branded prothane bushings and are TRD prothane or hard rubber ?

Or just go "prothane" and don't think about bushes anymore ?

well to tell the truth I've done quite a bit of research and most of the experienced guys say Prothane kits similar to kits sold at Pass Racing is quite worth its money. Yes they admit that it would increase the feel of the road through the body of the car and hence increased vibration but basically as a daily driver most of the them said they'd take the prothane as its quite cheaper over the closest competing bushing kit.

But I guess like you said prothane is the best buy and if you have the money you definitely can go for the expensive items where I guess these downsides are avoided through more R & D and resulting it costing more..

Prothane has stopped production for a while so there are non available right now. Production will start again in one or two weeks.

Prothane is sure worth the money it costs, you will notice increase of vibrations especially on rear trailing arms (upper ones).

Powerflex, some say they are not worth the extra money over prothane,and are good for racing because of very high stiffnes.

But there is another choice Superflex and they should be good.
You can buy them at Fensport.co.uk they use difrerent molding proces to achieve less vibration, they use diferent compounds for every bushing group to eliminate movement and vibrations. (how far is this marketing i dont know) i have one set in the box waiting for install.

And TRD is rubber but if its so hard as the motor and Gbox mounts i have on my car then it is not more confortable as prothane set i think.

To answer the original question: If you buy complete kit from prothane for 85-87 GTS this will fit on your 84 zenki. Prothane even delivers more bushings for different stabilisers in the same set.

TRD high density rubber are wworth EVERY dracma(or whatever you call money) you spend!!!!

Cusco also make a high density rubber kit.


I've had the TRD bushings for 10 years now... they are still in great condition... my car rides wonderfully, and the suspension is still taught and firm.

I STRONGLY recommend the TRD over ANYTHING ELSE!!!!


There is one secret that is not commonly known when installing TRD bushings......


The trailing arm bushings have small gaps in them to take up impacts, while not allowing too much freedom. these impact zones are designed to be mounted in the arms as pictured above

What about other 33 pieces ?
As i remember, there is 35 piece of bushing in TRD set. Is this rule applicable on other joints/arms/.. ?

The 8 pieces for the trailing arms are the ones that need special installation instructions. The other bushings are not specific like the trailing arm bushings are......
