Diff noise?
CW&P sounds stuffed... mine whines its head of as the gears are really worn..

20 year old gears tend to do that

Well..it finally happened.

R&p is gone.

It had been wining for over a year now.
But nothing else.

I was at a driftday sunday and had been drifting for 4 hours.
It had been raining and the track was quite wet.
Everything is going fine.
We had a 1 hour break and then I went out on the track again.

Did a couple of runs...still nothing strange going on.

Then, next lap, take the first turn, clutchkick...and...crack!...just like that....all of a sudden.

This is what it looks like:

Pinion is missing a lot of teeth. The ring has a lot of broke teeth too. Notice how the are all broken off on one side only.

Bad alligment? Or just old and worn?

What do you guys think of it.

I'm thinking about a 4.77 r&p with a solid spacer next.
But I want to be sure that it's reliable! Any other suggestions/alternatives?

PS. Engine is stock 120hp with a 2 year old stock replacement clutch. Clutch is holding up fine.

allignment = 1 thing (if set correctly it has less chance of BANGING the R&P but you'll break it anyway becuase of clutch kicking.

The engine is turning and you are banging in power on something that is either standing still or running at completely diffrent speeds. It will never stay alive for that long.

For sure a 4,7:1 with solid spacer is a good solution . Did it on my rally car with no problems for now .

Bought it from Weirperformance on this forum , very reliable and helpful seller .

@filh: Yeah I'll probably contact spence for the r&p.

How did the install with the solid spacer go? Easy?

I saw that I also have some play in the diff. Take a look at the vid:

The pinion teeth are all gone, so the teeth of the ring aren't coming against anything.

But I guess this still is too much play right?

What do you guys think?

No play allowed in that way .
If you buy from Spence , you'll get a full set with washer to fit the correct preload .
You should also order a new bearing set ( 3pces).

But if you never done such work , you'd better ask a good mechanic to do it .
It 's a precision job .You'll need a comparator to fix the correct backlash.

You'll get a Job description from Spence , but for confirmed mechanic .
