Few issiues with my AE86 (dash and engine)
Hey, I recently run into a few probs with my AE86 and i was hopeing you guys could help me.
1 My engine was stuttering at 3000 rpm once, the check engine light (only happend once) 2: oil level and fuel gauge do not work on my dashboard cluster, i do have a spare one. but not know whats best to do can you please help ? thanks Build your dreams. Engilne levelwhat ?
Fuel gauge level and reserve light are connected from fuel tunk with two thin yellow wires, and share same ground. First check if there is change in resistance on fuel level when you add/remove fuel and if there is short ciurcit when there is low fuel. After that check continuity from dash to fuel tank connector. Wires are runed from tank to driver side fuse box and from there go to dash. |

Check if the singe yellow/ black wire is connected to the oilpressure (not level!) sensor. its that big round thing underneath the dizzy.
As for the engine issue, have you checked your diagnostic codes, that should have stored an error, if there was something major. 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

Diagnose it, and if oil pressure sender doesnt work then check resistance (Download the manuals from aeu86)
Stuttering could be bad ignition (I`ve had the same countless times on a 2T engine). My tip is if you want to know your engine then check everything. I.e check spark plugs for fouling, check cylinder compression (Doesnt matter how much/little compression, so long as all 4 cyl`s have identical comp levels), check spark gap on your plugs, check plug wires for voltage loss/resistance (stretch them when you check), check distributor cap for wear on the points inside, check distributor for oil leaks (Yes it can happen) which can explain sudden ignition failure, check rotor for wear. Hey Rascal.
I noticed that my coolant is very dirty. I will replace it soon. For the other stuff, Will look into it when i got the time. Just been to a anime con this weekend and still recovering haha Thanks for all the tips so far :wink: hopefully i will get it all fixed soon! Build your dreams.
