Hello ,
This my third engine break this year (rally season) .
And I think the worst .

2 1/2 rallye for this one , let's say it's about 450km special stages .

Just got the engine out of bay , and pics are speaking for themselves.....

Just notice the pictures comments , thanks to Pink Floyd !!

I'll try to make other pics , during the the taking aparts operations ( but why opening it ?).

My newyear occupation is known now !

I'm not so far in disassembling , but I can tell that even the steering strut is damaged !!!
Looking through the holes I can see : a broken rod just blocked in the middle of cylinder , and piston is just above .
I guess I won't retrieve much from that 450km engine .
I rebuild that engine with new bearings everywhere , new pistons and rings ,
block was " rebored" 81,50mm.
Just don't know what happend and will probably never know .
No noise , no oil or water consumption ,a good oil pressure .
Lot of work now

do you have any dataloging system?
maybe it did loose oil pressure due to G forces or something ....
did you check all the clearances properly with plastigauge
ARP everywhere ?

just trying to help, the engine should last a lot longer ... and they usually do.

no data system , and I don't believe in oil pressure lost , as the oil sump is well partitioned!
No ARP, just stock nuts and bolts.
And clearance weren't cheked with plastigauge . but all measurments done before assembling , and all the usable parts were new from pistons to bearings .
It's not my first engine building (very far from the first one , as I use to play a lot with 2TG engines)
I use to compete with the same engine for about 5years , without any problems .

But what is done is done . Try to find the 42/20mm crankshaft with rods , but not very easy .
Thanks for your response

hmm, about the 2T-G engines, do you still have parts for those? Tongue

Confused It happens.

Phil best thing you could do is buy a 20v ST. Rip the pistons ou and the head off. Use Toyota last spec 1992 16v 4age pistons and rings.

This will be one of the best setups you can get. Contact r.hellenbrand he build an 181 hp 4age with this type of lower block.

would start with ARP on the con rods ...
and new toyota ones on the crank and head ......
using plastigauge to make sure u have the right bearings ....

it won't cost you much these operations and they can make your engine last a couple of years .....

If the problem was oil pressure then maybe you should have damages in the cylinder head like camshafts seized.

Is the piston pin seized on piston side or on conrod side?

How are the conrod bolts?

How are the bearings?

There's any possibility of water or oil entry to the combustion chamber?

What maximum rpm were you using?

What was your compression ratio?
