Engine rebuild questions
Hi everyone! im rebuilding my engine, wich is a portugese spec blue top (130ps, no egr, etc)
Im going for a -TRD 0.8 head gasket -Supertech Viton valve stem seals -OEM Toyota intake and exhaust gaskets -ACL Race main, rod and thurst bearings but id like to know what piston rings would you recomend, OEM? and im looking for a complete engine gasket kit (all the water lines, water pump, oil pump, oil pan, etc) ive seen there are a few kits for the 4age that went into the chevy nova that includes all that, and i dont really care about the "important gaskets" as im going with other ones for intake, exhaust and head, so, what would you say? |

not much time but better check the ACL rod bearing size, last time I checked the race version doesn't come in the 40mm variety

if you install a trd gasket make sure block and head are 100% smooth or it will leak
Gasket is not forgiving like oem toyota one |

Engine rebuild questions
Rings I would only use NPR ones or OEM.
About the gaskets; I've used an aftermarket gasket kit without any problems. No concerns in those kits if you use everything except the headgsket. You're better use the OEM, TRD, Cometic oder similar well known brand Daily Beater: Civic EG5 Work in progress Car: AE86 |

Engine rebuild questions
Viton rubber seals for stock guides... not Supertech dual spring guides (guide diameter is smaller) "stock" aftermarket viton rubber seals are available... typically for about $40 or less search - VSS935

Engine rebuild questions
(05-20-2015 02:05 AM)AlexKTM Wrote: thanks, i will keep that in mind One of these two sets should fit the 4AGE pistons you only have to find out which thicknes your current rings have: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FULL-SET-PISTON-...232658d35f or http://www.ebay.com/itm/88-91-HONDA-PREL...c8&vxp=mtr According to the depts of the internet the first set should fit on enignes with TVIS and the second one on later model engines such as the smallport. But better check the rings yourself to be 100% sure Daily Beater: Civic EG5 Work in progress Car: AE86 |

Engine rebuild questions
I used oversize NPR pistons when I rebuilt my engine. Haven't had any issues with them and used the NPR rings they came with. Seem to be pretty good value compared to the cost of OEM oversize pistons and rings.
I used Mahle bearings in my engine, considered ACL but they cost more and I didn't really need them. My gasket kit cost about £40 but I didn't get the TB gasket, however this was made from a Cornflakes packet. Regarding the HG; I had my block bored out obviously but did not have it decked only because the machinist said it was very good anyway. However I did have the head skimmed, but have had no issues with my Cometic gasket regarding leakage. I am using it again as well since I've had to rebuild my cylinder head! |
