Exhaust gets REALLY warm, mild 4AGE build running MS
silly question but you said it's running rich... are there any huge backfires?
usualy high EGTs are down to too retarded ignition, lean mixture, exhaustcam opening too early or too high compression... post some more details of the whole setup and specs maybe that'll reveal some more AE86 ex-daily |

Could it be some kind of restriction in the exhaust?

What injector times are you running?
My engine did the same after putting the Haltech E6c Ecu on it. After a few minutes of idling the header was glowing. Engine was running way toooo lean! |

Hi
Here are all my settings. I had little time to play with the MS before I left for China so I do not know what they are all for...? With regards to the lean mix I am running std smallport injectors - 250cc.. And thanks for all the support so far - greatly appriciated ALL MS info to be found in the .zip file... |

Another "hot exhaust issue"
http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=49341 Resistance of exhaust too big? Or could it just be the 2degree advance in idle mode causing this issue? The 2degree has been set to lower idle rpm - if set at 14-16degree will idle at ~1800rpm... - Niels |

Sounds more like a resistance problem to me.

Bean Bandit: There are no backfires. And we did check the other things you mention. However we only looked at two plugs so it might be one injector thats bad. This is next up...
Ivan/Gnugfur: We tried without the rear part of the exhaust and it still got warm. We checked the front peice before mounting it saturday. Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Daily driver: '92 Toyota Carina E GTI Rebuilt project: '86 Levin hatch |

Jan Pedersen Wrote:Bean Bandit: There are no backfires. And we did check the other things you mention. However we only looked at two plugs so it might be one injector thats bad. This is next up... its a matter of flow restriction contra the aspect of what the engine delivers. I would start from replacing the header and work my way backwards. Other than that, since your certain the timing is correct. I really cant imagine other possibilities than a flow restriction, lousy metal quality or valve problems. Valve problems should be easy to determine with a compression measurement kit. A "Mickey Mouse" solution to determine if it keeps its compression is spraying fog of thin thin oil into the sylinder before you mount the compression kit. Also, check the physical placement of both cams. edit : If you've been running "wrong" A/F sooth will build up within your exhaust. Also, are you running a cat on your original exhaust? edit 2 : went over your project thread. Could find any pictures of your exhaust setup. But i got a theory. Are you running the 16v 4AGE exhaust on your 20valve setup? edit 3 : What are the valve clearances? Compression rates? Kp62 - 135hp Ae86 - 135hp C32 Laurel - 440hp C32 Laurel - 125hp |

Get an AFR meter somewhere and check if you're running lean or not.
