Final drive
Guys, I have another problem. My final drive pinion gear has broken and I need to find a replacement. Since new ring&pinion sets are quite expensive I was wondering if anyone has a spare axle with good final drive gears. Also, I remember someone mentioning that ring&pinion on some Lite-ace's (or something) fit the ae86, maybe someone could tell me a bit more about that?
He attacked everything in life with a mix of extrordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which. |

rear axle of the liteace aint that difrent i think i think it could be the same as the SR5 so same as on the ae86 without discbrakes

Good excuse to change your R&P to a lower gear. Or is 300 Euro's really out of the question?

@aico: and then i would look for a Final Gear Ratio: 4.7?

(which one shortens the drive-train and gives the quickest accelleration?) I think 4.8 would give the shortest ratio..(BTW, shortens the drivetrain is a bit to literally translated)

From the site 4.7 is the fastest acceleration. The cheapest also. The difference between 4.7 and 4.8 is almost nothing. Just go for the one you can get.
You're leaving the engine almost stock right? Because if you're making high HP or a very high rev limit a higher gear would be better. |

Final drive
The lower the final gear the more you have to shift. When you have more power you might have to shift too often. Personal preference.....make up your mind about what you want.
It's only about a 10% difference so it ain't that much. TRD has an even lower gear if I recall correctly is was about a 20-25% difference. You really need a very high revving engine if you want to get a final gear like this. |
