This starting system reminds me something like an aeroplane!!!
Battery on (Main switch) Fuel pumps->Run Avionics On (Gauges) Fuel Mixture -> Rich Bleed Air Valves -> Open Condition lever -> Feather Start No1 Start No2 Really nice project man. Keep up the good job!!! Toyota Corolla KE30 + Toyota Corolla AE86 |

Ouch, so much looking forward to how this car will look once finished. Could you maybe post some pics up of the CRX? They are an old love of mine, would be interesting to hear and see the speed difference between these two 80s classics.
Oh and a question: where did you pick up the steel coilover sleeves? I'm still looking for a reasonably priced source of quality parts outside the US. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

Cool, glad to hear its still moving forward. The CRX sounds cool too, you should post some details of that up too.
MY 4AGTTE N2 car is almost done now too, am interested in your FG panels though as a european source would be useful. Mine has the late front and the front spoiler had to be cut about a bit to make it all fit. The rear of the car is great but i'm not 100% on the front end. A fellow member from Toyota Club of Finland made the sleeves and both the upper and lower spring perches. He asked 75eur for the whole set so I think it was quite reasonable as they're also zinc plated and the threads are very neatly made.
@Team_Dandism: Wow! That's one wild '86 you have there! I really like the suspension arms you have - that front lower arm looks especially delicious. The guy who makes the FRP stuff said that as soon as he has his own car in a more finished state, he can start taking orders on FRP bits. I used to have a CRX some years ago and really loved it but wanted something similar in RWD so I sold it to get cash for buying an MR2. When we started building a new endurance car last year, I managed to convince my teammates that a CRX is the way to go. The class rules are quite strict on what can be done to the car so we've concentrated on the suspension, brakes and engine internals. Fuel economy is an important issue in endurance races (each pitstop for refueling costs about 3 laps and you can only fill 20 liters per stop) so we haven't gone all-out on the engine; D16A9 1590cc 16-valve DOHC engine, 75mm bore, 90mm stroke. Compression is upped to 11.5:1, 270/11.2mm intake cam, 264/10.0mm exhaust cam, stock manifolds. Under the car, double wishbone suspension with coilover shocks, 12kg/mm springs front, 10kg/mm rear, polyurethane bushings all around, Wilwood 280mm 4-piston brakes in front w/ Hawk HT10 pads, stock brakes w/ Hawk HP+ pads rear. Turns and stops really quickly and is actually even a bit too prone to oversteer - I'm going to try to change the springs and play with the rear toe before the next race to see if I can make it a bit easier to drive. Finally some nice weather in Finland last weekend and therefore a perfect day for painting the doors, bonnet and front bumper. I also fitted the rear flares onto the car as per the instructions on the TRD bible but didn't seem to have identical tyre clearance on both sides. After furious measuring and pondering, I realized that the car is so low that the panhard bar is pulling the rear axle way out of alignment - I'll have to cut it in half and add some adjustability. Anyway, photos; The flares are not fully riveted on yet, so there's a bit of gap. Also, I think I could almost fit two of those 175/70R13 tyres to each wheelwell. The rest of the photos are here. |

Yay, new wheels!
These are modular 3-piece Compomotive CX wheels - front ones are 6.5x13" and rear ones are 8.5x14". The tyres on the rear wheels were too huge (265/50R14 ) to fit onto the car so I put two front wheels on one side and took photos. ;D The rear tyres will be 225/40R14 and fronts will be 205/50R13 so I'll have a nice 535mm tyre diameter on both axles. The previous owner also had painted the centres metallic red so I'll probably strip the paint off the centres and repaint them back to the original gold. The rear wheels with those huge tyres; The front wheels mounted to the rear. Needs a small spacer but nothing too massive; (sorry, cellphone photos - forgot my camera at home ) |
