Fitting camber plates on shocks with odd threaded nuts
*edit* split from AEU86 shop thread after question of fitting Tein camber plates with KONI. KONI has a different threading for the nut then the standard nut that comes with the Tein camber plates (standard AE86 shock thread) so you either need to get a special nut made, or do something else which we're discussing here.*/edit*

Hi Werz,

Yes and no Smile

They fit just fine but from what I've been told by Oldskull is that the standard nut that is delivered with the Tein has threading that does not fit the KONI shock. I have to try some day to find out which shocks do fit the Tein standard nut and which don't.

I'm still supposed to go past Oldskull to try an set of nuts I have lying around that should fit KONI and the Teins and make the install complete. These are the nuts Jamie made for me for the HTS's.

I did hear from another guy that fit the Teins that used the nut that came with the KONI's together with a bush that fit the Teins or whatever camber plates he installed.

You could probably get away with using a metal bush and separate nut, you only need about 1,5 - 2 cm's, there is probably more than enough thread on the koni's to do this safely... Damn koni and their 1.25 thread pitch...I've had enough problems finding nuts to fit them as well. (From a safety/quality point of view, the finer thread does seem less likely to shake loose by vibration.

Not applicable for camber plates - by design.

Doc, camber plates needs deep-type of nuts.
Do you use camber plates + plain type of nuts ? If yes - any photos/description of setup 9brand of shocks and plates) ?

i use Cusco Camberplates with Koni shocks.
And i just used the stock Koni nut, i know i should use the deep-type nut, but i hadn't got them while i was installing the camberplates (and running late for an alignment appointment, 4 hours before i went to a weekend-trip to the UK Big Grin)

what is cool about using the wrong nuts? Tongue

Or did you think it was not fisically possible?

No, it's cool that it's possible in your particular application Smile
I prefer to keep the things simple - when possible.
