if I may, as your engine is still out and empty. You could smooth the surface below the cylinder. You will see that one of the main oil canals has a not so clean exit into the lower part of the engine.

I heard from an engine builder that it decreases drag if the surface of the bottom of the engine is cleaner. (some engine tuners use a coating to achive the same effect quicker than sanding/grinding it smooth.

I did it on one of my project engines and it takes time and a good cleaning. But I guess once done it is something you never have to worry off again :-)

Could someone please clarify if the head resurfacing needed all the time when engine got disassembled?

not always needed. But then you really need to clean it properly. You can use resurfacing to get it completely straight but you would also need to do the lower block of the engine to make sure both are lvl.

To increase compression it is even advised to take some of the lower block and not the head as the head is more fragile.
