GZE pulleys NEW question
Hello everybody,

I got some questions about the 4aGZE crank pulley kits etc.

I know about NST - I know about T3
(tho I have no idea of what he means by using a 4age idler pulley etc.)
I know about pulley bros.

Tho my gut is telling me I should look into the NST pulley kit as it comes as a complete kit.
Since I dont have a 4age idler pulley regarding the T3 crank pulley.

What do you guys think and how do I install - for instance - the NST Kit.
It says it goes from .8 to 1.3 / 1.4,5 PSI
How much gain is this?
Somebody told me once - get a pulley kit and go from 145bhp to around 170/180bhp

Here are pics from my engine/front.

if you go for the T3, you need a idler pully, mine is from a ford? dunno excactly where it is from.. and you need a different (gates) multi belt .

gain is 0,3 bar boost till a maximum of 0,9 bar boost.

Thanks... I will look into that... I am still trying to figure out which pulley kit I want as there are some extremes. A full kit without me having to replace anything sounds good.

The 4age idler pulley they are talking about is the cam belt idler pulley.

you have to replace that pully allways, or else you will get interfearance with the larger crank pully

I understand some more now...

I want to buy 2 pulleys in the near future but would like to know all your input as I have not idea if these 2 would work together...
Maybe if I buy both - 1 of the 2 would cypher the other one out making the more boost undone...

1. 157mm crank pulley -

This was made by Endevor Engineering to exactly match the HKS 157mm crank pulley size specs, which is the largest sized crank pulley you can run on a 4agze without having to alter, or remove the timing pointer;

It is easily the simplest and least expensive method to increase hp on a 4agze engine, and will increase the stock sc12 supercharger output by at least 2 psi; that is a 25% increase from the stock 8 psi output, and will produce an approximate 20hp gain, from 145 to 165hp; it can be run with the original 4agze SC pulley belt, and it only requires a simple vacuum hose change, known as the 'ABV Mod', to take advantage of the boost increase; no 'Grunt Box', or other complicated mods, are necessary;

2. 103mm Clutched sc12 4agze supercharger pulley -

Bolt on modification, instructions included.
Pulley, Bearing, Magnet and Electronics are New
Will fit both sc12 superchargers
11psi pulley for 4agze engines with FMIC and std crank pulley.
TMIC more psi

Beware of the 'ABV mod', it is an extremely poor way of ensuring that the extra boost generated by a bigger pulley is not vented off by equalising the pressure both sides of it.

A far, far better way is to blank off the feed to the ABV from the SC outlet, that way you ensure that all boost gets to the engine.

Doing the ABV mod alone can result in some leakage.

The biggest crank pulley is 180mm, Fensport do a 176mm pulley. The HKS upgrade is a very mild one.

Also don't be misled by someone saying X pulley creates X amount of boost, because boost pressure is variable with intake charge temperature and when it gets hot you get higher boost pressures but less power. This is particularly so if you get heat soak which the Rootes type blower is renowned for. It simply is not designed to be anywhere near efficient when spun a lot faster than stock.

That said with decent intercooling you can generate good power. Power wise on an AW11 spec engine is 180bhp with a 176mm pulley. I used to have an AE92 spec engine which made 186bhp. Torque is around 180lb ft but the small port engine slaughters the earlier lower comp AW11 engine in this respect.

Thanks L.

So what would be best is my question.
I just want a little bit more juice... I have the 1st gen 145bhp 4agze from an AW11.

Should I buy the 103 mm Supercharger pulley?

Or should I buy a different CRANK pulley?

What would be best?

I am trying to get around 170/180 bhp or at least thats my goal Smile
Not to overdo it and F up the whole engine.
I allready have a FMIC...

Please guide me to the light.
Thanks!

A bigger crank pulley will increase the revs of the supercharger pulley, add to that a smaller supercharger pulley and the supercharger will spin even faster.

But as Lauren said the supercharger will generate more heat and become less efficient as they weren't designed for high rpm. (that's why a supercharger delivers more down low and less in the higher rpm's)

Again as Lauren said you'll need some sort of cooling to keep air temp's down and get cooler and thus denser air in the engine. Denser air = more power with same boost level.

Those are the basic's.

Now If you want to be really precise you would need to determine/look up the the diameters of the stock pulleys as these will give you a ratio. If you then determine the new ratio's with only the crank, only supercharger or both pulley you can determine how fast the supercharger will spin with either set-up. If you can then find some sort of efficiency graph of the supercharger you can see how efficient it will be at certain rpm's.

Simple option is just to look at other people's set-up, see what they're using, what power they're making, with or without intercooler and take into account any other mods they've done. Quick google: http://www.twincam.org/topic/15515-what-...what-mods/

I can't give you advice what to do as I've got a turbo on my 4agze and haven't got any experience with the supercharger but if you keep the boost below 14psi the motor should be fine (if it's a good motor from the start). Keep in mind though that by increasing power you also increase the stresses on the rest of the drivetrain...

Just my 2 cents.

If that's what you want it's relatively simple to achieve. Don't worry about the SC pulley, that's fine. A 176mm Fensport Pulley kit and blanking off the ABV will achieve that power. You may want to consider a different idler pulley as I know some who have experienced problems with that.

I ran this setup on my AW11 from 2001-2006, did a lot of mileage and somewhere in the region of 50 trackdays with no problems.
