I blew my diff
Well it happened today, I blew my diff. Well I wont get into details on how I blew it.

I have found another one for a mere $150 NZD which is not to bad. I went to take my old diff hat out tonight and got one axel out but the one on the left wont because on of the nuts holding it into the brake/diff casing is rounded off. Any ideas on how to get this nut or bolt out. I cant fit a angle grinder in there and cant force a spanner or socket on there. I might bring a cold chisel home from work and try smashing the bolt off. But any ideas would be great

Heres a photo:

Sorry about the bad image, its from my cell phone.

You can weld an old wrench on it, or a bigger bolt...If I remember correctly you can physically take out the bolts from the rear of the flange, so finding a way to cut it off might not be a very bad idea.

Ah, nice drumbrakesSmile

Another option would be to drill a hole into the center of the bolt and use some left threaded bolt or similar to get it out. Left threaded bolt will fasten itself into your old bolt by screwing it in counter clockwise and once in fully you can now screw out your oldbolt in the normal manner..

I have a nice set with left threaded bits especially for this, costs me a couple of bucks but well worth it (unless if you only bring your only clockwise turning drill along like I did not that long agoSmile )

Mux, the idea with the left treaded bolt wont work in this case. Its the nut thats rounded, therefor he needs to remove that first. As i remember, the nut is a 14`, so i would try smashing a 13` on it. If that doesnt work, use one of those plyers a plumber uses. Or take the chissel, and "cut" the nut in two Tongue

weld a pice of pipe so u can use that for leverage (like a wrench), and heat the screw with some sort of torch then try unbolting it. hamering a couple of times on tho screw head cann help to releave the thension of bolted connection and then screw can be unbolt easyer also.

Ah crap, sorry I missed that bit, thought it was a boltSmile

Yeah then either cutting it off or welding something on it seems to be the only way...

DRUM BRAKES ROCK Evil lol

Yeah I dont have a welder so I was thinking that I will use my high powered drill and just drill the bold out, if you know what I mean. Drill the center on the bolt and keep on going larger in drill size. Once the nut has been drilled alittle and the bolt is weak I will get a cold chissel and smack the bolt and nut off.

Sounds easy
