Small update:

Car looks really bare now as I took out the old rollcage the other day ready for when its new owner collects tomorrow. I have me a 6-point saftey devices cage with diagonal and doorbars designed for a sunroof car that I got off ebay last week

All lot of the bits I've been waiting will 'hopefully' arrive next week so the work can get underway proper at last.

To make it easier to move the engine and gearbox about whilst cutting up the tunnel I decided it made sense to take of the engine wiring harness and the old inlet manifold.

My god there is soooo much emmissions and vaccum crap underneath that manifold I never thought I'd get to the bottom of it. In order to get at all the bolts for the manifold I ended up having to remove the starter motor, top belt tensioner, alternator and a whole load of other crap - but now its off.

So

Fitting everything back with the Jenvey port adapter in place allows me to figure how much room there is available underneath. This is kind of important as I have to get each port on the new manifold tapped with a vaccum port so I can run a canister to power the brake booster. Also have to have the blank tapped on it so I can get the water temp sensor on it (you can see the housing mounted on the right end of the inlet manifold).

May also end up getting some custom water inlet and outlet pipework made as the existing ones have separate lines to the s2000 heater matrix (wont have a heater - just some electric blowers in the dash) and also other lines as a water jacket of some sort ran through the old inlet manifold.

Temptation was high and I was going to chuck the ITBS and trumpets on - but it is a waste of time as its all got to come back off again anyway. Injectors can stay in the old manifold for now so they dont get all messed up.

TPS sensor (and spare) is on its way from RS components at a bargin price of £18 each.

Now I am trying to get hold of one of these:

Its an intake manifold gasket that is designed to dicipate heat away from the inlet manifold. There have been some quite good results with them (look here on the hondata site)

So its some progress I guess.

Tomorrows fun will be removing the roof lining and a/b/c pillar trim as its no real use anymore.

Hiya Ian,

Couple of remarks abaout the phenolic spacer:
1st: I don't think that it dissipates heat away from the intake mani. The head is much warmer then the intake, so its designed to isolate the intake from the heat of the head.
2nd: They are really not worth their investment. Think about the amount of air being pumped through the inlet at normal engine speeds. There is no way that you can do anything to heat up or cool down air moving that fast, the effect in practice is tiny...maybe one hp or so.
3rd: They will work in situations where the car is left to heatsoak. For example at a traffic light. There you have a slight increase of initial torque at low rpms, but soon afterwards things are back to normal..The same goes for dyno measurements: they are made while the car can heatsoak. hence the big difference in results, its not a good reflection of road use.

With small Itbs the advantage becomes even smaller, so might not be the wisest investment. Doesn't hurt much either, so if you find one cheap..why not.

thanks for the input. I know there is no perfect cure the heat soak situations - but its probably worth a try. I wonder how much differece in cost there is between a stocku honda gasket price from the dealer and the hondata one (they are £50 I think). Areas where I think it may help is when waiting in queues of cars at drift practice days (and hopefully some sprinting days in the future). I not expect to gain any power from using one.

dollykean - there are no other F20C powered hachis in the UK to my knowledge...there are about 3-5 running cars in the USA, 1 in canada and at least 2 in Japan.

The japanese ones are of particular interest as they are RHD, the LHD car is easier and slightly cheaper to convert as the std s2000 exhaust manifold can be used. This is not so with the RHD car is the steering column is in the way.

A long long way to go yet - but only time will tell if I can pull this off.

Few more new bits arrived which is good.

Some of my parts came from Gabriel - x-member spacers, new radiator with the inlets/outlets on the correct side for the F20, type R gearknob (my engine came without one and they are really cheap in the USA compared to england)

Sold my 4 point rollcage and now have a proper 6-point cage with door bars that will pass the MSA regulations for rallying and also the regulations for D1GB (but I wont be worrying about that for a while).

Took the water pump apart on the F20 motor and its no good - must have been damaged in the s2000 when it was crashed. I have managed to find a new one though so thats ok.
