Roll cage is in. I think its all been welded up now since the pictures were taken.
Main hoop platforms Front leg platforms Rear leg platforms I'm pretty chuffed with that. The door bars are not in yet as there is more to do inside I suspect. Cant wait to see it on Friday - shame the motor is not in anymore - everything is off for powder coating including the axle. Regards Ian. |

Really nice project man!Correct engine choice, (keep it N/A) lots of power (if i'm not mistaken I've recently seen one at a Greek tuning magazine which pulled out almost 300hp with a single throttle body and street setup)and suits the car's character perfectly!I would prefer a 20v Formula Atlantic engine, or a Hartley V8, but both cost a fortune, and the Hartley, despite the fact that pulls out 375hp and is really lightweight, it sucks just because it's a V8 (toooo American for me).Anyway...Love the job you've done on the front suspension and the steering system! Awesome!I also think that the reinforcing box sections are a good idea, but I think that your roll cage is too "poor". You could add some crossmembers and if you're worried about weight issues you could make them from carbon fiber tubes (I know, the cost is high, but weight matters!)I would also change the bonnet, the doors and the front wings with glassfiber ones.Maybe you can also do this with your roof (because it's already removed). You will save some weight from a point that's high (you will lower your CG) plus you can do it yourself if you have any experience on composite materials and with reasonable cost.Anyway, excellent work so far! Keep it up!Waiting to see your beauty running!

I read the topic from the beginning yesterday night (I didn't remember all the detail from the beginning, it has been almost 2 years now...) and I realized that your friend - the one with the Westie - has A LOT of experience and has the means to build anything you want...As far as the engine is concairned, the F20C I was talking about was built by J's Racing Japan (it has a 2.2L stroker kit, so I suppose it's an F22C  ) and pulled out 313hp with a mere road setup and a single throttle body...

Its been a long long project - I've been messed about a bit - fortunately I am patient. Yeah - the J's Racing yellow s2000 has a strong engine - I think unlike the F22 engine the F20 stroker kit can deal with more revs. I think a stock engine mapped up on ITBs will be more than enough for the car - plus it should stay quite reliable too which is very important. More work on the cage Main hoop gusset onto b-pillar Front leg gussets onto a-pillars - the top curve the leg is also stitched to the top of the roof. The first of the door bars. There is going to be another one at a very shallow angle from the base of the main hoop half way up the front leg. Got to sit in the car today and the cage is not intrusive at all. I've also seen the main part of the tunnel today but I forgot to photograph it like a fool - its very nicely shaped. The prop shaft is made - its a safer 2 piece item which makes use of the rear section of the stock 86 drive shaft and then the front flange from the s2000 prop - nicely done - hard as nails. Regards Ian. |

Nice to see the progress!Seems that she'll be running soon.Yep, it's cool to have a stock engine, as stock means reliable and the power will be more than enough...I think it's a good idea to remove the part that keeps the steering column in place (the one painted silver - sorry I don't know the exact word ) and replace it with a tube welded to the roll cage.I suspect that it will offer some torsional stiffness!
