Is it worth it??? Please Read
ok so i have a chance to buy a 85 corolla SR5 for only $250 us dollars.... my question to you guys is... Is it worth it? car has over 200k miles and does not run... owner says motor knocks and he thinks it was just a spun bearing.... so motor needs a rebuild... ok now i know NOTHING about these cars so i need your help.... i would be using the car for just a lil drifting.... not to much.. i also love speed....are the stock motors in these any good? and if not what can i swap it for with not to much modification? and about how much for swap? sorry im a noob at these cars but not to drifting or cars. Here are some pics of the car...Thanks for any help in advance

I voted no if you have to ship it overseas.
The shipping cost to send an SR-5 would exceed the value of it. Besides... That thing needs a LOT. If you want to buy a car from the US and you are overseas, search for a GT-S model. You will spend a bit more for the purchase, but you will save in the long run. Converting an SR-5 to GT-S is getting quite expensive these days. More financially economical to so simply start from a GT-S. |

Only you can decide if it's worth it. Many owners of theese cars are "cutting against the grain", saving them from the sure death at the wreckyards. But it needs work, and a lot of it. Firstly you will need to strip the whole car and fix all the rust spots - there will be many, so it will include alot of metalwork (cutting, welding..). Only when you have a nice chassis, than you start building your car, renewing all the aged basic components. If you were to say make this car like new, it would still be far from a drift machine. You'd need a 4age engine, tranny, ecu, wireing loom, lsd diff, brakes from the GT-S model. And even than you would have to invest in stiffer suspension (new shocks, springs - preferably coilovers), stabiliser bars, camberkit, new bushings etc..
The biggest keys to answering your question "is it worth it" are: -do you have a garage or a place where you can work on the car -do you have the skill and time -do you have the money needed (i'd say atleast 5000$ to make the car somewhat driftable -and most importantly do you really want this car, to go through all of this |

I voted Yes!
Swap in a 4AGE and make sure its in good working order. Then go drive it and have as much fun as possible. It will not be a drift car but you can have a lot of fun with cheap upgrades as well! Go for it Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Daily driver: '92 Toyota Carina E GTI Rebuilt project: '86 Levin hatch |

Yes and No
Buy it and send it to me I'll build it. Trust me you need to have love for these cars to invest so much time and money in them. A good fun drift car will require (apart from LSD and a new engine) at least 1000 euro's on suspension and bushing etc. Then to get the car in good working order that you can have fun for many years to come count on a good 5000. So it depends. Cars: "99 Lexus IS200 "86 AE86 Kouki Panda Levin GT-Apex (restore project) "84 AE86 Zenki Blue Levin (project racer) Motorcycles: "02 Yamaha R1 "02 Honda Hornet S "08 BMW R1200GS |

1000 euros apart from 4age and LSD?
I think it can be made cheaper, esecially if you live in the states. of course cheaper meaning you are the labour. Anyways, I would say YES! Philip |
