Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done
Well I'm back early today so I didnt get nearly enough done for the time I was @ the garage, but that's to be expected after a long break.
You develop a knack for metal work but it takes some warming up. Made myself an under seat floor reinforcement using CAD (cardboard aided design). Sadly I only had enough time to finish off one for the drivers side, but I have the pattern for the other side ready and it should be done faster. Pictures follow once the Doctor is home, I snapped some pics using his camera. BTW Bennie... I already have a small metal bending brake. Used it today. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done
Been at it again this weekend:
Finished off the internal 'frame rail' reinforcements: Dreamt up some shock tower top stiffeners (shakkito plates or whatever the japs call them). I built it out of puny 1mm sheet metal instead of the 3mm thick contraptions you see being used because the thick stuff is a bitch to work on, it's heavy, and I do not intend to rally my car. Then did some seam welding. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

It will fit without problems.. it actually sits a lot lower than the metal plate.
And even if it didnt..a remote reservoir is not so difficult to build. I would agree on the welding fetish remark..I forgot how my ae drives a long time ago but I sure like welding it. I promise it will see paint this year (even though it might only be an epoxy basecoat to protect the blasted chassis). Now that reminds me of another thing: I should weld a bracket for a brake master cylinder stopper to that shock tower while I'm at it...(since LHD ones are hard to find and they are usually overpriced anyway). Can relate to all the welding, and no driwing
I also hope to get the shell finished this year, and have it Epoxy primed. Restoring my AE86, all the way... Going JDM style http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/ae86/p/150463#150463 |

Once I'm done welding I'm sending it off for particle blasting and an epoxy coat, which is about the best I can afford on my budget. After that it's time for filler and such (a.k.a troweling on the wob, as my good friend Thomas (the Doctor) likes to say).
