PN# of the shocks (just to check) ?
So the shock inserts are too long ? For your 100% stock AE86 shock housings ? |

Didn't understand.
You cut your housings and now you can't use stock size KONIs ? Just make new looong caps (screws) for the housings |

The koni's have little metal tails that are meant to be cut to make the shocks fit the strut perfectly. You can cut them in 2 or 3 steps, but so far every koni shock I've encountered needed the maximum amount cut off from the bottom. Hope that helps.

Koni front shock...
if you cut maximum your nut doesnt grip the shock and it is loose in the strut...
You can do this: cut to the last part... as low as you can get it... but then the nut doesn't fit In my case even the KONI nuts didn't fit. So what do you do? then you machine (grind) the inner side of the stock nut... like so: SNO-MO-BIRU project started- CHIRO |

I cut at the maximum I could...
I ain't no problems with the nuts but there's too much rebound so I think I will do a short stroke modificaction... 1982 Toyota Corolla KE70 1992 Subaru Legacy BF5T |

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I had this problem with Bilstein too... take the gland nut(top nut you show being machined) put the nut on the shaft. slide it down to the base. with shock upside down and using a piece of wood as an anvil, tap the bottom of the shock till the nut seats around the damper. THEN install shock and nut into strut tube and rotate gland nut till it catches Dan - You can | .... OR you can ask for help!!!
