LSD question
Hey guy's me again lol
I have an LSD question.....I was wondering what is the difference between a 1.5 way and 2 way LSD...I was told that 2way helps for de-celerating? What is the REAL difference, Are 2 ways worth the extra $?? |

LSD question
I don't think thats what he wants to hear Jamie..its mostly techno babble that explains how the LSD does what it does, not what it does exactly.
I'm not commenting on this one untill I've experienced all of the different kinds of LSDs..too many people talking out of their asses on this topic. Probably only a couple of drifters that have experienced all kinds of LSDs, but then drifting is a very specific use of the car thats not really relevant to other kinds of driving. LSD question
Just came to think of something:
You can set ramp angles (the angle of the V in the LSD) in most serious simulation games. That would allow you to get a feel for 1 way, 1.5 way and 2 way LSDs, without driving a real car with all of them in it. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

No, that answered it. Thanks Jamie....
Nohachi, I know exactly where your coming from and I appreciate the fact that you dont want to give me the wrong info. But im really good at write-ups...Nice info on the OEM LSD's too  |

LSD question
Ok, if you're good at writeups then maybe you can explain to me the exact difference in behaviour between 1/1.5 way lsd's and 2-way lsd's. Where will I get oversteer, where will I get understeer and why. Will braking be more stable or less so. Do I need to run schoolbook lines (all braking done in a perfectly straight line, do not turn in untill all braking is done) or do I have to rotate the car by trailbraking into each corner. I haven't read any socalled writeup that genuinly adresses these questions..Just a bunch of semi nerds quoting instruction manuals and talking out of their asses..basically the same thing as the club4AG write-up. Great if you want to build an LSD from scratch, but useless to a driver.
Clues: Quote:The 1.5 distribute positive lock stronger under acceleration than when decelerating. The 1.5 way can provide more forgiving balance when braking than a full 2 way setup, although it is less effective for true racing applications, it provides easier operation for beginners in throttle off conditions. It is also effective for front drive cars which need extra stability during braking. Whahahahahaha..WHY is it less effective for racing..neutral balance is not needed for racing? BS and hearsay. 1.5 way better for FWD? Why? I don't get that remark at all..Why would an FWD car need locking action during braking? Quote:To add to this, Kaaz differentials have higher quality tolerance levels, represented by computer balanced shell casing and gears, and initial pre-load springs are matched to vehicle applications. The reason for small application list is that they go through 3 years of N1 and Gr. A racing to design the differential design and specifications. I prefer the KAAZ because of cheaper entry price tag too, made even better by introductory pricing in the US markets. Consider it the ultimate in LSD. blah blah blah...straight from the KAAZ user manual probably. I'm seriously looking for a serious article on this topic, but the inet is filled with drift-only info. LSD question
But more on a more serious note:
I've seen many questions pop up around the internet about the different kind of diffs. Up until now, I have never seen a real answer to them, usually something descriptive like in the club4ag article. Thats a shame, because its an interesting question that has a lot of relevance to car setup and driving theory. Some love 1 way diffs and hate 2ways, some ensist you need a two way, there was even some guy in the seventies (Mark Donahue, who drove in most big LM and sportscar classes) that used a 100% locked diff in every car he drove (and won). So there are ways of driving around the problem of a locked diff and winning with it. If you know how to do it, then you can think about it and go out next time with a better knowledge of your cars behaviour. That would be of benefit to someone. Now if you can deduce all of this from the club4AG article, then you are a more clever man then I am and I am more the willing to sit back, read and learn something. Edit: http://geocities.com/n_heusink/setupguide/guide.htm Makes more sense to me..need to fire up GPL again to try and see what the difference is. Edit#2: http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=58721 Makes my brain hurt sometimes but lots of good info..reading not recommended for people with a geek-factor lower then 0.8. LSD question
Good readings. Am I the only one who thinks it is flipping hillarous at the ammount of 'tech' regarding vehicle setup that can be found on message boards dedicated to racing sim games compared to what we can find for real life cars? This probably explains why I'm horrible at video games in general.

Giving this topic a little bump in hopes that you or someone else had found some answers to those questions since you posted this. |
