Levin - Trueno Questions
Hey there, i'm going to migrate to a Trueno, and got some questions now...

About the headlights, are they different Zenki and Kouki?!

About the wiring, anyone got some scheme so i can see what need to change in my wires?!

The headlights and headlight units are the same for zenki and kouki. The difference is in the eyebrows, which is a detachable piece of plastic. Apart from that they should be identical.

Then the USDM and JDM both have a zenki and kouki front, so apart from the side lights also the grille and bumper are different. Also the kouki has slightly different fenders due to the well known plastic mouldings we also have on our Levins. Wink

I've been doing alot of search as i'm waiting my stuff to come to Portugal....

And i'm dealing with some questions, that are obvious because Truenos are mostly impossible to find here....

So, i'm going for a Kouki version of the Trueno model.

Got everything set and up ready to roll!

Trueno original wiring!
Trueno parts!
Trueno headlights - almost.... Confused

But got a dumb question.... How the hell do the lights work?!

Low-beams - Which of the lights go on?
Medium-lights - Headlights pop-up, and that's all i guess
High-beams - Nothing happens as the headlights beam higher.....

This question comes after seeing some movies, and pics of kouki truenos and in everyone of them the lights are different.......

Maybe someone with a trueno could explain to me?!

Mine did not function properly, but this is how they should be when you have the retraction relay box:
- Low beam should turn on only the side markers and not pop-up the lights
- medium would pop-up the lights
- high beam should also pop-up the lights if they are retracted (so the flash signal or high beam on the indicator)

Also the light switch of a trueno has an extra mode to pop-up the lights without engaging the lights. The reason for this is obvious: when you need to change the lightbulbs or wish to ruin the streamline of your car during daylight. Wink

Actually not that reason. The last position is not there to raise the headlamps, it is there to turn off the headlights without closing them. You can only reach that position after the lamps are ON and RAISED, so what you are doing is only changing the ON to OFF. This is to ensure the headlamps are not literally covered by ice or freezing snow, preventing them from re-opening in a place where there is winter weather.

So you can park the car in the winter, turn off the lights, and not have to worry about being unable to raise them when you get back in.

Toyota seems to lack experience with winter weather. Since this issue was known and done by other car makers we can assume Toyota fortunately copied it.

But most all of their newer cars have been made with what we in the US call "the ice cube tray". That is, in a misguided effort to lower air drag, Toyota recesses the wiper arms into a "tray" at the bottom of the windshield.

Yes, in winter weather that tray regularly fills with water melting off the front windshield and snow and freezes as the car cools, trapping the wiper arms.

That's why so many cars since the 70's have had the wipers hiding under the rear edge of the hood. Aerodynamic, but can't ice up as easily.

I guess Toyota never hired anyone from real snow country. The AE88 heater could never defrost the rear side windows in cold weather, either.

Oh wait (smack!) you're supposed to buy a LandCruiser for winter use, aren't you? <G>

But this thing of the Trueno lights is annoying me... every video or pic shows different lights ON at night... LOL

pack, I almost didn't buy the car because they had switch TO popup headlights. Which may look cool, but I was buying for a reliable long-term car and pop-up lights are always an expensive or unreliable nightmare in the long run. Or both.

With different regulations in different markets, and folks trying to make their cars into Japanese home market clones...I'd hate to guess what is out there. I did catch one blooper in the anime, assuming the jdm lights are on the same switch as the US models though. (Not gonna tell, you'll have to watch them again and again until you catch it.<G&gtWink

I lovingly call them "the barn doors" like the flaps on a B17. Raise the lights, watch the gas mileage drop 2-3 mpg at highway speeds. Great speed brakes, just not my cuppa tea.
