Lyndon Galbraith - New Zealand
Hey everyone,

My name is Lyndon Galbraith and I am from Timaru,New Zealand.
I have built and owned 1 AE86 rallycar previously and I am just starting to build my second one.
I hope to use this forum for helpful knowledge and info you guys can give me, and to source parts to build the best AE86 rallycar in NZ.

Cheers Smile

Hi,
Yes it had a close ratio kit in it but only 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears were changed.
In the earlier years of me owning that car I was using a 4.77 diff which was extremely tall and 5th gear was useless. I had a 5.1 ratio built and modified in 2009 and that made the ratios alot better but still not perfect.
I have since sold the car and recently talked the new owner into buying a 5.3 ratio which will be ideal and has closed the gaps up nicely.

My new car is getting a TRD close ratio T-50 and a 5.3 diff ratio to start with but later down the track I may go to a dog box with 1:1 5th gear and a 5.1 diff ratio....ratios are where its at! Smile

Yeah I have the same issues, running 4.77 but on a stock box, Im going to change to a S15 rear end, and need to sort out a decent gearbox, very hard to do with reasonable cost though.

Im thinking of going Lampola dog box out of Finland.
All the Irish guys uses Sadev sequentials mated to a type-9 ford bellhouse & Atlas rear axles.

Lampola
$4000aud delivered, might do a group buy?
