What do you intend to build?

The OEM driveshaft isn't usually a problem as long as it is in proper working condition(no tight, or loose joints)

Concerning power capability of the T50, it is usually torque that is a gearboxes enemy, not usually horsepower. With that said, a gentle driver can make it hold up longer.... but the tipping point on a T50 is about 100#/ft of torque, or barely above stock.

*IF* used spiritedly... a stock 4AGE will destroy a T50 in less than 50k miles.

Adding one of the 2 TRD gear sets will get you another 20%, but the box was designed a long time ago to take 40-80 #/ft originally.

remind that all reactions are mostly based upon what people read. I have seen people hack and slash T50's with 20V blacktops and 4agze with over 200hp and they wouldn't brake.

A stadnard 4age pulls around a good 120hp and I got mine at around 160-170 ( I pass 20V blacktop on the powerbench) and my T50 is fine.

So I would say. As long as your not boosting than you should be fine on most of the stuff. Boosting kills;

T50's rearends , axles.

Clutch kicking also makes it possible.

One of my friends here in the hungarian drift series has ~180hp 20V powered hachi. He broke about 5-6pieces of 2nd gears. Tranny broke usually after 2-3 races. He has springless clutch with AP racing pressure plate from an S1600 rally car. after these he swapped to W5X tranny..


Other hachi in the hungarian drift series with 135 whp 16V (~160 crank hp) engine broke also the 2nd gear after 3 races. He has stock 200mm clutch!


But both of them likes the clutch-kick...
