My AE86 racecar project
dAYTONA Wrote:Firstly, nice project.

Now, the fuel tank can be welded, but it needs to be free of fuel vapour. So it needs to be cleaned. There are places which specialise in welding fuel tanks, they clean them, weld them, paint them...you can also clean it yourself, and just weld up any holes.

I was looking for a super clean rust free fuel tank too... couldnt find one, then one day saw a add, guy had some spares for sale and I got a tank off him... still needs some work to avoid it having holes in the future, as it has some surface rust.

Good luck.
Thanks

I think it will be hard to weld it so it 100%, but maybe if you soldered it??

I also ordered a perfect condition tank so I kan get on with the project,
and then I'll see that to do with this one..

Hi KrizKH
Could you tell me more about your gearbox conversion? I am looking for a close ratio gearbox for my KE70/4AGE track car. It looks as though you put an adapter plate onto the 4AGE bellhousing which will alow it to bolt to the M3 gearbox. Am I correct?

Which clutch and pressure plate will you be using? Which driveshaft will you be using?

Thanks.

Yes. But also the "centre-ring" in the bellhouse, and the "male-part" fore the "centre-ring" on the gearbox is custom made..
nicely explained Huh hope you understand what I mean.

- Flywheel and pressure plate is 4age, but flywheel is modifyed because the clutch is thinner.
- I don't remember where the clutch is from, but is was a special-order.. M3-Getragt / 4age (200mm) mix..
- The driveshaft is AE86 with M3-end welded on.

Update.

I got another fuel tank but it had been laying without fuel too long so.. rust inside! Angry but I'll get it traded to another, so not a waste of money just time..

I got the 2.5 turns rack assembled and mounted on the car.

The rusty parts will bee replaced anyway so I just use them as they are until.

Yes I thourght of that!
But a fuel cell in the reserve wheel spot will place the weight of the fuel higher then the original and the original is an easy fit..
A fuel cell must be build in a box of some sort so it's shielded from the cabin.
I also thourght of lowering the boot and place a fuel cell but now that it's just painted I don't feel like cutting that much in the car.
