Well... a few things to point out.... a few of the pics showed Japanese text, and for those who were looking carefully they also saw no EGR, and they saw a MAP based EFI. So this engine is JDM.

But not just any JDM engine, this one is rather rare as this one was came from, and will be going back in..........

a Black Limited.........

400 cars were produced. This rebuild... with a few tricks, will be going back into the Black Limited it came from.

That's a sweet Black Limited and it definitely deserves a rebuild after 31 years!

Switzerland and Sweden had MAF only for sure, in Germany I think the early ones were MAP and only later due to emissions law they got the MAF version

dismantling begins........

Each and ever piece coming off the engine gets tagged and bagged........ (some new parts also in frame)





With the head off the block, it now goes out to get cleaned and checked, one thing is certain... this engine has 9.4:1 pistons. There is something else certain in this view.... ???





bearing numbers noted... can you see which crank it has??




.... and the head disassembled, nice looking cams....






especially considering this...... now no more (except deburring the rest of the head)

I'm not really sure about the Germany receiving both the MAF and MAP 4A-GE, but they did indeed get two versions: one leaded (gobbling up Super Benzin) and one unleaded variant with a catalytic converter:

In Japan they also put the catalytic converter on their ordinary unleaded 4A-GE's and still put a MAP sensor on top of that.

TBH: I think the leaded variant was perfectly capable of running unleaded.

Hmmmm, making an assumption......

I wonder......... the unleaded one - 9.4:1, the leaded one 10.0:1???


3rd column, 2nd line down kw/ps 124ps vs 116ps... that would very likely be 10:1 vs 9.4:1
