Oil coming out from the PCV and Oil Level Gage...
Hi!

I've recently made a change on my ECU to push the rev limit a little over the stock limit and I'm having one problem.

I installed everything but I didn't use clamps on the hose that goes from the PCV to the intake manifold. While I was testing the car on the road, the hose came off and when I noticed, all my engine bay was squirted with oil (I think I lost around 1 liter of oil in just a few miles).

I know it was dumb to assemble the hose without the clamps but what I want to know is why so much oil is coming out from the positive crankcase ventilation.

I have 264/264 HKS cams and the head shaved 0,6mm put together with a 0,5mm TRD metal head gasket. The engine is pulling fine until the new rev limit at 8300-8400rpm.

Let me know what to you think can cause that much oil coming out from the PCV.

I'm about to check engine for compression to find out if eveything is ok...

Thank you.

Best regards

PCV ?? You mean the head cover? the air side of the intake cam has a air line where oil can come trough.

The only time I ever seen my car spit so much oil through the PCV (?positive? crankcase ventilation I believe), was when my pistons and rings had gone bad.. But my engine didnt exactly sound very good at that point either. The PCV shouldnt need any clamps to stay put I think (never used clamps myself).

Well, compression test done, and there are no good news...

1st - 16.5 bar
2nd - 16.0 bar
3rd - 11.0 bar
4th - 11.0 bar

This points out two possibilities:

1. Piston rings faulty on cilinders 3 and 4.
2. Head gasket failure between cilinder 3 and 4 and an oil channel.

But there are somethings that should be considered: compression values on cilinders 1 and 2 are way too high. Do you find these normal?

I think I made a compression test earlier (before skimming another 0,1mm off the head and with another tester) that had 12 bar compression.

What failure can cause higher compression than expected?

Right now, I'm off to try to see if I have any obstructions in the oil respiration channels that could cause an excess pressure. Only then I'll disassemble the head again to find out what failed.

Best regards

i think you measure the KG per compression. (engine off meter on the place where the sprak plug is and then turn the ignition without truly starting the engine ?) then you measured KG. its normal for a new 4age to be at 15 - 15.5 kg per cylinder.

Didn't you rebuilt the block with an el cheapo head gasket?

robokill, the block wasn't rebuilt, it is stock. The head gasket is metal TRD 0,5mm.

I measured bar in the compression test, which isn't far from kg.

It's OK for 0,6mm shaved and 0,5mm gasket Smile

Manual says stock bluetop has ~13 bar

3. Valves have burned.. or something else is wrong with them.

Symtoms are weird.

Its normal to have best compression on 1st and a bit worst on 4th, i mean, a descent compression from 1st to 4th cyl but such a huge diference i cant really tell.

The temp gauge have been working normaly/showed the normal values?

I´m not sure, but can it be cooling problems?

Well, if you out of compression you don't have many choices:

1. Headgasket failure
2. Valve clearance or improper sealing between the valves and cylinder head
3. Piston rings

As you have loosen so much oil maybe you should check the valve seals...

As you intend to push the engine to a so high rpm, i think that maybe is a good idea to change the valve buckets for the Yaris ones for example.

But i'm newbie in 4AGE engines when compared to you... Respect!
