Problems Mintex M1155 pads
Anyone faced problems with getting the M1155 front pads to work properly?
I used to have the M1144 fitted on Black diamond discs and they were performing very well.
Now decided to 'upgrade' to M1155. I grinded the discs, ran in the pads according to Mintex adivised procedure but I keep having very early brake fading.
After burnish, I let the pads cool down.Than, I made few smooth brakings to get the brakes conditioned.Than I performed 3 times hard braking from 100 until 40kph and only applied smooth acceleration in between to allow some cooling. At 4th braking attempt from 100kph, at around 70kph, Brake force drops drastically and pushing pedal harder and deeper doesn't make any change... very scary... it feels like the car will never stop!!!
I tried a second set it seems bit better but still early brake fading occurs.
Can I use the same discs as with the M1144 pads? Or, is this causing the poor performance?
Does it just need more run in?

Beginning of this year, before it was in for >2yrs without any issue.
Drove the M1144 after renewel and it was fine.

Hmmm... if the pedal is still hard and does not go soft/down to
the floor, then it sounds like the pads are overheating. Should come
back to normal quite quickly as they cool down.

If the pedal goes soft/spongy/down to floor then it is the brake fluid
that has overheated and boiled. It can take a while and a lot of
pumping of the pedal to get any brakes back.

I'd suggest flushing the system with some new DOT4 fluid and bleeding
them carefully to make sure there is no air left in the system. That's a
cheap enough job, and if there is no improvement, you know that the
problem is with the pads or rotors.

Checked the bleeding again... no air came out. Pedal is hard when cold.
Re-burnished the pad again. seems a little better but still it fades early.
Looks like pad is overheating... BUT M1155 should work until 600deg or something.
After 3x braking from 100 to 50kph, impossible to reach 600deg....

So I assumed the discs...
I re-installed the M1144 and they performed normal as before... no fading, hard pedal etc... (unfortunatly not much material is left on them, so I need the M1155 to work)

Is it OK to use discs that were used with M1144 on M1155?
I know that AP pads for example don't work on discs used with Raybestos pads. But would be surpised it's also the case for 1144 and 1155.....

How do you run in the 1155 pads? I made 3-4x smooth raking from 50 than 8-9 times hard brake from 110-120kph until 40kph (with some cooling in between)

This is what the interwebz say...

BEDDING IN MINTEX “M” TYPE MATERIAL
M1144 / M1155 / M1166 / M1177

1. Clean discs with brake cleaner or other solvent.
2. Apply 3 to 4 light applications of the brake from 30mph down
to 0mph then......
M1144: 6 / 7 steady applications 70mph down to 30mph
M1155: 8 / 9 steady applications 90mph down to 30mph
M1166: 9 / 10 steady applications 90mph down to 30mph
M1177: 9 / 10 steady applications 90mph down to 30mph

FINALLY.... Leave to cool as long as possible ( They now work from cold )
NOTE: DONT LEFT FOOT BRAKE ! & DONT LOCK-UP THE BRAKES !

So you seem to have followed the recommended procedure. I do remember
reading somewhere that it is possible to transfer too much material from the
pads to the disc during bedding in. I'll have to see if I can find that again.

YES !!!! that's exactly what I noticed also. There seems to be a lot of brake dust/pad material in the disc-rotor grooves. And alos noticed the color of the discs changed to darker... but still work with M1144. So would be great to get some more info on that and how to solve it.... Thanks a lot Hurray!

Indeed I followed that procedure...

There are loads of fake parts out there and brake pads are one of those things that really show the difference between genuine parts and copies.
Might be the issue.

Can you give me the part number for Mintex M1155 (AE86 fitment)

A search brings up people having problems with pad glazing on M1155's so that might be worth checking ?
