Try this:

Remove the following fuses:
-STOP
-HEATER (if you have it)
-DOME
-HORN
-RADIO
-EFI

Pull the following relays out:
-DEFOGGER
-TAILLIGHT
-HEADLIGHT

Those are about all of the circuits that are connected to 12V that do not go through the ignition switch.

See if the buzzing stops.. then start plugging them back in one by one until you find the one that causes you problems.

Hey bean, thx for the offer and now I don't have a day off Saterday is my day of wrenching on the hachi.

The sound comes from a relais (sorry didn't tell that sooner) at the fuse box near the clutch pedal. I changed the box over from a spare which I had laying around with other relais (same type but diffrent ones) and didn't help.

For the wierd reaspn. If I plug in an ECU from an AE82GT or from an kouki AE86 I don't get the wierd sound. I don't get an engine checklight either.

I also changed the cluster unit for another one and didn't didn't do much.

My own guess is that I used the wrong engine wireloom. But that seems nearly impossible because the zenki and kouki have diffrent diagnostic plugs.

It might be possible for me to change the inner loom and the engine loom but I need to check my stock. If anyone has a good guess......

I do have an MAP engine loom with me but I wouldn't think this will help a lot... IMHO it's easier to try and find the cause... I'll do some head scratching and see where it leads me (might be able to dublicate your fault on my car... but I brought very little tools so could take a while) let me know any details you find out in the meanwhile.

IMHO the box that does the sound isn't the one at fault but another one, remotely connected to it...

could you check your engine fuse box ? is it the same as mine ? I can replace that one.

ik heb bijna het zelfde probleem gehad.
het lag bij mij aan een kapotte zekering + een contact slot wat niet helemaal goed meer werkt.

my engine fuse box is the same although I have the AFM version of the engine...

I did have spark, didn't test it after swapping some stuff over but the results where the same. Its still weird why I miss my engine check light

heb je ook stroom op je injectoren?want bij mij viel die weg als ik de auto wou starten.er was een verschil(van zenki naar kouki) in de voorste kabelboom waar ook de koplampen op aangesloten zitten

alright I've did some pondering and testing:
Pic1: is normal operation
Pic2: I pulled the 'EFI Main' - the engine check light doesn't illuminate
Pic3: injector fuse thingy I couldn't see on your pics
Pic4: overview on how it looks on mine

now the 'Engine Main' in the fusebox does feck all - the engine starts also even with it unplugged...
and as mentioned above when I unplug the EFI Main my engine check light doesn't illuminate either and the engine will crank (starter works) but not run, just like yours so you might want to check that.

also you seem to have other stuff plugs sensors around that area I don't have comparing your pictures with mine so I'm not sure (see pic 3 and 4)
