20v BT - which oil pump?

Hi folks!

I'm rebuilding a 20v blacktop for my AE86. Was wondering what is involved in changing to the silvertop timing belt/tensioner, as I understand it is less problematic than the hydraulic tensioner of the BT. Also, the timing belt is about half the price of the blacktop. I have two oil pumps; the original BT pump (engine spun a bearing so it would be no harm to discard that), and a 16v type - which looks very clean & may not have seen much abuse. I also have a new genuine pump gear set.

Is there anything I need to be aware of when doing this? Also, the previous tensioner was welded/brazed onto the dowel on the pump but I've since ground that off and the dowel came off with it!

the dowel is important for the tensioner....

If you really want to run a silvertop type pump , I'd recommend you just buy a new Aisin OPT-036. I would recommend a few drops of assembly lube inside it before assembly.

Yeah thanks Chacaman, I've seen that video. Unfortunately it doesn't mention the tensioner and I've already got a later gearset to install into the pump housing

Pick up the OEM part number for BT and search the AISIN pumps (OEM supplier) half the price
