SR5 - 4A-C engine

I've been researching SR5 to GT-S conversions and It's going to be difficult. I'll try to do that when I get more knowledge of thiese cars engineering. So what i would rather do it mod the current 4A-C engine. If i add a performance air filter, would i need to mess with the ECU? How about installing a turbo? I heard something about changing the carburator...Whcih reminds me, i heard of this http://turbonator.com/ I find this very interesting. What do you guys think?

Dont put money into the 4AC...you're better of spending it on a nice swap..

Isnt it possible to install the 2-TG in a AE86? Thats a nice engine, and its easy to find "go-faster-parts"

I agree with Ivan that doing a swap in the long run gives you a much higher performance engine for the same buck, but I disagree with the fact the 4AC should be ignored.

Sure its old fashion stuff, and you will never get any good mileage but carberator tuning and 8v setups are easier for the amature in all respects. No fance electronics to mingle with, yet there is so much to learn from it.

Check out http://www.paradiseracing.com, maybe sent an email to Luis, he's not very good at answering but he does know alot about 4AC tuning. He has a kit for sale that bring the 4AC over 4AG levels performance wise (not economy wise). Also he's got some nice carberator setups for sale.

But in the end, keep in mind that what you save in costs from a conversion, you'll loose in the end in performance tuning the 4AC. Also keep in mind that an SR5's suspention and rear axle is not up to the task.

Also there is a guy in Bulgaria I believe that is turbo charging a 4AC, could be interesting to see what that ends up like...

Maybe this is Punky's Ae86. He bought it as 4AC but already did engine swap with 7rib and made 4AGTE modification. In fact 4AC is suitable for turbo because of 9:1 CR but this engine lacks of strong internals :-(

I.ll do swap on my SR 5, and as I can see, it is difficult if you don't know about mechanic. You need to change every thing. Nothing is same, even dashboard, fuel lines....... nothing. If you dont have complete GT, forget about it.

It's going to be hard getting all the parts necesary to convert to a GTS so in the meantime, i just want to get more power from y current 4AC engine....
lowering the car will be one of the first things done to it.

Belive me, you can't get all parts. Only option is to find crashed GT, ilegal one or rusted. Thare is no other way.

If Zax didn't help me with some parts, my car will be finish maybe in two years.

My option for now is to mod my 4AC...the other day i was driving around in my neighborhood and i see a red AE86 drive up the street. I was going the other way so I wouldnt follow it and talk to the guy to see what he wanted to do with that car. I probably would of scared him by following him. It would of made more sense to him if i were in my Ae86. lol

Hmm ok, lets if we can shed some light on this.
The 4AC shares the same enginemounts and ancillaries as the 4A-GE...
The way to tune the 4AC is by:
Wilder cams
Better carbs or probably just a rejet from the current ones
Slightly modified ingnition..
Better headers
So whatever happens, you'll be doing those things to your 4AC to get any sort of power out of it. Now if you are serious about this, you might as well slap those parts minus the cams onto a 4A-GE. The price of the cams should get you a nice bluetop and the carbs eliminate a lot of the wiring issues. Then you would have the nice twincam powerband and revvability and the beautifull sound of carbs on such an engine.
