Speedo Gear
Hey, just disasembled my speedo gear cause my speedo isn't working. But it's looking "not" that bad. It should still grip or not?
The cable is working Daily Beater: Civic EG5 Work in progress Car: AE86 |

isn't the circlip missing that keeps the gear in place?
what if you connect/clamp a drill on the gear and spin it, does the tacho move? if you assemble the speedo gear in the gearbox without the speedo cable and spin the propshaft, do you see te connection where the cable mounts on move/turn? some questions to localize the problem. the gear looks pretty worn on the underside Real men race downhill |

cable is working, tacho works if i connect a drill on it. Removed the speedo gear as you see in the photo, no holding clip was in there where has this clip to be? in the slot? How does this clip look like?
Previous owner said cable or sometihing is not working. I know the out side of the gear is worn out but it should connect on the whole gear? Daily Beater: Civic EG5 Work in progress Car: AE86 |

in this picture on the left side you can see the clip, you can also see that the gear sticks a little out, there is a little offset. If the clip is not there, the speedo gear will probably not mesh right in the other gear causing an uneven wear. question 2, where is the clip? could be swirling somewhere in the extesion housing. or maybe someone forget to put it back. Better pic of the clip. And you really need it cause it keeps the gear in it's place. Otherwise the gear would go up and down cause it's loose and not work properly.
First time when i took mine out the clip was missing. Did the previous owner forget it or is it floating inside the gearbox i don't know. But when i replaced the gear and clip it worked right away. It did broke again twice after that, these suckers break easily. ハチロク |
