True... so conclusion:
TRD and HTS, tried and proven. Many positive experiences on the boards -> recommended buy. That about sums things up nicely. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

We are great, conclusion that TRD and HTS are best choice in topic that's called "T3 full coilover system, who is using them" I think that we should find out why (if so) HTS Tokicos can't be used for rear coilovers modification. I can measure diameter them but not soon, maybe in 10 days, so i hope someone can do it faster. Maybe the reason is protective black plastic, maybe it should not be removed ? Here they are beside TRDs. AGX are almost identical to TRD ones, they both dont have protection. |

I've got the car back in Portugal but here are some pics of the suspension.
Tokico HTS short stroke with Eibach 80N/mm (F) and Swift 60N/mm ®, Fully rose jointed suspension, T3 LCAs, tie rods and tension rods. I sincerely dislike the rear coilover design so I went with a simpler and more usual solution. About the Tokicos HTS I can say I was extremely pleased with the way they performed and the adjustment range is broad and really noticeable even with small changes. |

NoHachi Wrote:drako323 Wrote:The longer springs at the same spring rate and ride height will only change the position of the adjustable bottom spring hat. The fact that the spring will disengage at rebound will not change... Unless you use a very soft spring that will require pre tensioning to keep the ride height setting. (like stock) If you give 3mm preload you are going to have 54mm rebound travel (from ride height) (actually I took 240kgr in the rear, so it's 240/4.5-3=50.3mm but close) so you are actually off the perfect setup. This would require rather leaving 3mm clearance, which isn't much, but if you lighten up the rear and fit a stiffer spring (for going to the track) this problem enhances. Anyway for lower than 4.5kgr/mm rear spring rates and stock weight it's ok I guess. Now as far as length is concerned, I'm not sure about the operating range of the spring, I guess you could use down to 220mm with those facts. Mine are also about 260mm (4.5kgr/mm) and set up according to ride height (I wish there was separate damper length adjustment), which means about 12mm clearance (opposite of preload), 65mm rebound travel and 55mm bump travel. I talked to Gabe, he said HTS cant be used because of the adjustment mechanism had trued it with bad results. He had tried them with TRD before, and because of the internal adjustment type, they worked fine. So I might try it with full coilover and TRD shocks!

I wonder if the MCNSport system which already uses the TRD shock is the way to go then?

Hey Drako, you are absolutely right.. I have 3mm clearance, not preload. Its set that way at the moment, so equal bump/rebound (compromise). 3mm isn't enough to make the springs rattle I guess, especially since it only releases the springs at the very extremes of handling. For AE86s with very light rears the equations change, so you have lower initial sag in the chassis, but also less total roll for the same lateral force. Did you ever try setting a bit higher ride height on your car? You could try and see if it feels better. Send me a PM or email if you want the spring setup sheets from Eibach that contain the springs operational ranges. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

@4000GT, I don't see how the adjusters for the HTS could be a problem? Aren't they at the top of the shock with HTS?
MCN sport claim to have Spax copies of the TRD stuff...though I have never seen any dyno charts that show this. Its a bit of a black horse. Alternative to this stuff -> Contact RallyDesign or the Rally company that advertises Bilsteins here on AEU86. I am 90% sure that a Escort MK2 rear shock will fit an AE86 and be a close match for valving (very similar). You need the Group4 stuff and coilovers are available for that platform. I think GAZ also has a setup based on this stuff. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

T3 FULL coil over system (front and rear), who is using them
Im at a point where its just becoming too hard lol I have a few other bits to work on. I know what I want, but in every direction there seems to be some sort of concession or road block. I want a full coilover system with decent shocks! Seems easy... but no. Gabe at T3 doesnt seem too familiar with the TRD shocks, and isnt sure if he can even get them yet in the US, waiting to hear back.
Re the HTS, T3 mentioned they machine the upper mount (need the shocks for this). So maybe thats the issue, which is not present on the external side adjustment systems. There are a few different TRD blue adjustable shocks, and I just dont know which stroke will work in my application at this stage. Its a track car running 13" wheels, so it will be low! |
