looks like it has closer ratios than the standard gearset so ingear changes should keep you in the power band better, must admit im surprised to see no uprated synchros are supplied though,on a 20year old gearbox??

Yes TRD does offer such kits.
They are quite expensive though.

Quaife has some straight cut ones and you could also go sequential.

There are some choices you can go but neither one will come cheap.
I have all TRD charts available where you can see details on speed and gear.

Cheapest version will be a ring and pinion and change the whole ratio with it.

If you need further info let me know.

I guess if you buy the kit and built the transmission with new bearings, synchros etc., it will cost you about 3000,-€.
Like koh already said it keeps you better in power band, but you need a shorter ring and pinion.
I don´t think it´s very necessary for drifting, cause in a long drift the possibility you need to shift is bigger. It´s good for a better acceleration in races...

I have the 3 speed TRD box with a 4.778 final drive. Works very well. 1st is higher than std, 2nd slightly higher, 3rd lower than std. 4th & 5th are std. ratios, but the lower final also makes these shorter. Use brand new Toyota original synchromesh, bearings, seals, etc. when rebuilding.
It's a very worthwhile modification especially if you have a high reving peaky tuned engine. It is better for drifting too, especially the higher 2nd and closer 3rd - as it'll help keep you in the powerband longer.

We supply these too of course! Can get a box built here in Japan then shipped. Techno Pro Spirits did mine. It's perfect.

Now, the TRD ratio sets are just close ratios, correct? No dog engagement?

Wow, I could have sworn I had an account here... I guess I'm the new guy Sad

Correct if you want a dog box , then Quaife make a t50 kit .It has a 5th gear of 1-1 (the same as your stantard Toyota t50 4th gear).
I use a TRD close ratio kit in my Tarmac Rally car, it changes 1st,2nd,3rd, and 5th gear ratios
http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/nzae86s--...t-1/t/6170

I also use a 4.8 ratio final drive with this kit, 1st gear is about the same as a standard t50 2nd gear
