I would definately go for a volvo 200 series axle (preferably an early one 1030 type if I'm not mistaken). They are easy to find, LSD's are available, brakes are beefy 2 piston types, R&P's are cheap. This is mostly because the diff and gears are interchangeable with dana 30 stuff. It is also pretty strong, judging from the many turbo volvo bricks that manage to drive around with these.
