engine smoking
i just picked up a 1987 corolla ae86. it has the 4-age motor in it. nice car might i say. anyways when it starts up it puts out a lot of smoke. its white smoke and it burns oil. i know that is what the smoke is from. but i was wondering if there are any ways to fix this...cheaply cause i am broke after buying the car. it also spits out some carbon as well.
thanks for your help matt |

white smoke is coolent aint it.. so coolent is getting into the combustion.. must be head gasket..
I've always wondered how much such a fix costs. In best case, isn't it a case of just unbolting everything, putting a new gasket it, bolting everything back on and voila? Allthough I can imagine you'd need to replace intake and exhaust gaskets aswell Worse case there is more damage to your engine block offcourse... I've never done this so my question probably is stupid Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

It will keep blowing gaskets if you don't adress the cause of the p
roblem. Usually this means at the very least having both the head and block checked for straightness and corrected if necessary. In some cases the head is slightly cracked, causing weakspots and heat buildup. Only way to adress this is junking the head.. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |

I did that operation last year. It cost me roughly 150E and that wasnt indluded headwork. The head might have to be straightend. Thats about 150E more, depending on who does it.
