ford type 9 gearbox with 4age engine
Hello,
I searched on forum , but didn't found what 'i m looking for... Where can i find a adaptator for the type 9 ford sierra gearbox, to fit the 4age engine, or T50 bellhousing Saw a complete bellhousing at Fensport , but I don't know what clutch fork , and what clutch cylinder must be use? I also heard about an adaptator between t9 and t50 bellhousing , keeping all the Toyota clutch system (only the Ford clutch disk needed). Any clue or help welcome , about that upgrade . Here is a bellhousing:
http://www.motorsport-tools.com/catalogs...lt/?q=4age Ideally you want to buy an original RM sport one as it will fit first time without issue. You use a slightly bored out Toyota release bearing carrier with the Toyota bearing. Use your Toyota fork and slave cylinder. If you are using a 200mm flywheel then you can use your Toyota clutch cover with an MGB clutch plate. For competition use Helix make a complete clutch in either 200mm or 215mm to suit. http://www.helix-autosport.com/products/...es/toyota/ A four speed Ford gearbox will line up nicely with the gear lever hole in an AE86 but the 5 speed type 9 gear lever is further back so some modification of the hole will be required. Gearbox mount can be fabricated from the AE86 one. AE86 propshaft can be modded to suit the Ford output shaft, I had this done but eventually went for a bespoke single piece propshaft. If your intention is to run a Quaife (or similar) close ratio 'box you will definately need a final drive of 5.1-1 or lower An analogue brain in a digital World |

ford type 9 gearbox with 4age engine
hello,
Thanks both for your precious informations and links. I already have the 5,1:1 gear end. And yes , it's a Quaife gearbox. It's a bit confuse about release bearing . I don't know if the Toyota clutch bearing retainer(with seal) will fit the Ford gearbox. On the Ford , it's bolted on the gearbox cast , and on Toyota , it's bolted on the bellhousing . And it's important to keep the hydraulic Toyota release cylinder and fork . In a Ford , it's a cable clutch command.. I also know the inputshaft bearing located in Crankshaft , will not match the Ford inputshaft ... A bit lost , but got two months to fix that , before next rally season Anyway thanks for helping. You can get the crankshaft spigot bearing from here:
http://www.striker-cars.co.uk/rawshop/ they also show a bellhousing but you need to be a little bit careful about bellhousings as some (RM sport) were made specifically for the AE86 but some copies are, I believe, more of a generic Ford to Toyota design. There are threaded holes that allow fitment of the Toyota clutch slave cylinder onto the bellhousing and the Toyota clutch fork is used with the slave cylinder as normal. I guess if you used the Lexus 'box as a 5 speed, discounting 1st gear the ratios are not bad for a rally car.
(2nd gear used as 1st would still be a bit high even with a 5:1 final drive) 1st 3.874 26mph 7500rpm 185/70/13 (5.1 F/D) 2nd 2.175 47mph 7500rpm 185/70/13 (5.1 F/D) 3rd 1.484 4th 1.223 5th 1.000 6th 0.869 116mph (5.1 F/D) ideal ?? For a 6 speed gearbox the best budget one would be the Caterham 6 speed 1st 2.69:1 40mph 7500rpm 185/70/13 (4.778 F/D) 38mph 7500rpm 185/70/13 (5.1 F/D) 2nd 2.01:1 3rd 1.59:1 4th 1.32:1 5th 1.13:1 6th 1.00:1 109mph (4.778 F/D) ideal ?? Aluminium cased, Ford fitting, 1-1 top gear and ratios perfectly suited to a 4.778 final drive An analogue brain in a digital World |
