multiple rear axle problems!!
Hi,
I finally got time to install all my parts! But there are some problems, and I´d like to have a few opinions : http://img9.imageshack.us/i/214.mp4/ This was taken last year, eversince I bought all new bearings and a solid spacer and it will get a complete new allignement, done by specialist. Does a TRD diff get the same settings as a stock unit? C/P gear doesn´t look to bad, so this should cure the problem (at least become less noisy)? Another problem with the wheelbearings. I bought a slidehammer to get them out, but I could pull the left axles with a slight tap, an the other one by hand! Aren´t they supposed to be fu**** tight in there? One bearing has play and rusty stuff comming out of it, so i needs replacing, the other one seems fine, but I think I´ll replace it, too just to make sure it is fine. I´ll use some loctite shrink disc connection to get it a little tighter in there. What you think? 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

The loose half shafts are a result of repeatedly pulling them out.. They probably get locked in place by corrosion over time.
You can put a light layer of loctite or something similar in there to lock them up, just be sure you'll be able to remove them again later. I doubt a r&p that has been noisy before will ever get completely quiet again. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Thanks, ok so nothing to worry about!
From memory, if you can´t remove loctite shrink connection 300°C will allways do. Well, I just hope the C/P will last a little longer, once it´s realigned... 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

I always grease or anti-sieze the bearings when reinstalling so they're easy to pull later on. Be happy yours came out no problem.
TRD gears get the same specs as OEM. As long as the gears aren't chipped/cracked/damage you should be ok. Noisy gears can last as long as quiet ones, but your sanity might not make it . You might be able to quiet it down somewhat if setup was off, but it'll never be completely quiet. Andrew |
