smallport redtop with 20V quads- question.
If you use 20v quads either black or silvertop (yes i know there is a difference) with a redtop smallport, what loom do you use? What ecu can you use? Is there anything else that needs changing?

Whatever loom your custom ecu or piggyback needs. Most of the stuff will fit on the stock RWD 4A-GE loom.

you will need a difrent tps as the 20v tps is difrent. You will need custom wiring on your intake because most wires don't fir the 20v setup. (connectors difrent etc

I am building one to. I will use the MegaSquirt ECU, with custom wirring. You can buy the few connectors at Toyota.
What will you do with the manifolds? I think I must build them myself. It should fit the smallport head and Blacktop ITBs. Project AE86 now begun. Cars I have owned: Toyota Starlet EP91 1,3 16v Turbo, 200hp Toyota Starlet EP71 1,3 12v Sport Mercedes 207D camper, 1977. Toyota Starlet EP70 with a 174hp Silvertop 20v See video here: http://videos.streetfire.net/search/Star...079edc.htm Toyota Corolla AE101 with a 164hp Silvertop 20v. (Evolution bodykit and candycolor paint). Volvo 240 2,1 (The only car I have maked money on). Toyota Corolla EE90 (my first car) |

Nah, not really.
How do you plan on running the engine? Which ECU/Piggyback? 20V wiring looms sell for prices that are so high that you would think they were made of gold. But go out to the junkyard with a pair of wireclippers and you'll find out that connectors are pretty much universal between cars. It just takes some patience to collect them all from other wiring looms. After that a couple of hours with a wiring diagram and a welding iron is all thats needed. By the way, does the AE92 Smallport flywheel fit the AE86 gearbox?

AE92 flywheel takes a 212 (8.5") dia clutch and pressure plate, but
you use the standard AE86 throwout bearing when bolting up a T50. Cheers... jondee86 The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man. |

Is there anything else that needs changing? Hi Im sure you already know but you will need an adapter plate to fit 20v itb on 16v head: This one is ported to fit 16v small ports with 42mm St itb. For the ecu I suggest you MegaSquirt even use as piggyback only. A MS-1 PCB2.2 like this one can do the job easily...cheap too and can be tune for ANY others modifications like putting a Knock sensor on 16v ect. For the loom use the 16v with 20v tps. You will need AFM connector modifications to provide fuel delivery You will also need to tap an AIT sensor in one itb to provide perfect air temp reading (Place it near the port that will provide perfect reading) I suggest you use a GM AIT sensor(2 wires) if you decide to go with MS. Also the harness can be connected directly to a ecu like the MS if you do it or buy it from me this kind of plug-and-play adapter: (Made for Tom Ae111 to plug and play stock harness 20v blacktop with EDIS4 attached) Im not sure you really want to invest at this point but I suggest you to buy a complete blacktop with harness. Take the itb with tps, sell the head, you can get a good price for the head setup you can also sell your 16v block!!... Use the 20v block with 16v red-top PORTED head to get the maximum air entry offer by the itb . Cams 9mm+ lift, shims underbuckets, springs and have fun. Good luck with your project Hugo |
