Yeah a DIY guide on dis- and reassemble the diff would be great! Im have to do it myself, as the inner bearings in my diff is pretty noisy.

why not give it a go urself? once you have removed a diff housing once it wont take you long to do it again if you need to (espcially if you make a super slide hammer!) setting the preload can probably be done without a dial guage anyway if you have a good mechanical "feel" it would be like re assembling a bicycle hub (simple cup and cone system) the paper sytem for backlash is also a tried and tested "home fix" if circumstances were different i would have definatly given it a go and thats how i would have done it! why not try it out if it goes wrong you will only be in the same place as befor (having to find a specialist) and if it goes right............ i only replaced one of the wheel bearings which was gone (which is why i did the rebuild in the first place) had to angle grind it off as 1kn press wouldnt move it Run Free and take a Goodline V8FOURCAM32 MK3 Supra Patchwork AE86 from 4AGE to 7AGE to 4AGZE and now 4AGEU20v suzuki cappuccino mondeo TD |

Hmm...okay..
I've got a dial gauge here at home, problem is that I dont have the magnetic standard that I need to be able to use it. Getting a torque wrench with a higher range (for carrier bearing preload) shoulnt be too difficult, and I'm sure some store will sell a paint compound to check the contact patch (shouldnt be a problem as long as I dont need to touch the pinion). I'm still curious what kind off damage the old r+p has sustained..it still drives but the sound is horrible. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Okay, a little info that might or might not come in handy:
Toyota OEM diff carrier bearings cost about 60 euro's over here in Holland. I found a part number for a good aftermarket replacement (made by SKF bearings): LM501349/310 Sadly they are a tad more expensive over here than in the USA: around 43 euro's including the damned 19% sales tax. I think they only cost about 40 dollars in the US so it might even pay off to order some from there if there are more buyers. I'm really suspecting bearing failure to be the cause of most diff problems. My noisy as hell ring and pinion dont look very worn at all... the teeth are still sharp. Mux's old r+p which I'm using now makes less noise but also looks to be intact. Another possibility is that the crush sleeve has caused the pinion to come out of adjustment, which is very possible since trd makes metal spacers to replace them with for harsh use (racing/drifting. for some odd reason i got 15% discount. If any dutch guy wants the package Springs: 90501-23474 (4x) Inner clutch: 41361-14051 (2x) Spline plates: 41385-14010 (2x) Outer clutch: (#6): 41361-14070 (2x) Bushings/washers: 41383-14010 (2x) for 120 euro's i can order it again, or you can do so yourself offcourse. thanks for listing those items m8! They should arrive next wednesday. I'l give you guy's a report on how much it costed me and how big the difference is. He attacked everything in life with a mix of extrordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which. |

Just got the answer from Toyota about the set:
